Maksimkin and Ivanova have gold!
On Tuesday, September 10, in Togliatti, on the basis of the Druzhba yacht club, the Russian championship in the Optimist class was completed. The winners were Muscovites Artyom Maksimkin and Alisa Ivanova.
On the final day of the regatta held on the Kuibyshev Reservoir, the wind force was 5-7 knots. During the races, at times the wind died down, but immediately gained momentum again. Stable wind conditions allowed the organizers to hold two races in all fleets.
“Optimists” are the youngest athletes in sailing, but at the same time the most ambitious, ”says Vladimir Lyubomirov, president of the Optimist Class Yacht Association. – The championship of Russia is the start, where they can get the title. Racers value this title and are proud of it. At the same time, this is the first race of the new season, which is qualifying for the World Cup and Europe. On the one hand, this regatta is the end of the year, and on the other, the beginning of a new cycle, which gives it even more importance and tensions.
In the struggle for gold, sensations did not happen. Despite the 10th arrival in the 10th race, the athlete of the Vodnik Sailing Club Artem Maksimkin won a landslide victory. Thanks to the ejection of the unsuccessful 10th parish, Artem scored 10 points and was 22 points ahead of the closest pursuer Kirill Shunenkov (Academy of Sailing)! Andrei Sotnikov, another Academy driver from the Rautu DSPK, closed the top three winners. He has 48 points.
“No matter how strange it may sound, the most difficult was the first day when we were kept on the water for a very long time, but then we were given a race,” says Russian Championship winner Artem Maksimkin. – I had to wait every second for the race, because the wind either came, then again calmed down, the distance was often changed. It was difficult to prepare yourself for the race. Then I plan to go to the World Cup, I will prepare for it, I will go to the training camp in Garda or in Turkey. In the future I would like to get into the Russian Olympic team. ”
In the women's standings on the last day there was a change of leader. Alisa Ivanova from Vodnik managed to get ahead of Marina Babkina, an athlete of the Academy of Sailing. In the final race, Marina lost the race, which allowed her rival to become a leader and win a gold medal. Varvara Yuryeva (Water Sports Center, Gelendzhik) finished in third place.
In the standings of the younger youths, Dmitry Eremin from Krestovsky Island became the best. Despite his young age, the rider came eighth in the overall standings and ahead of many more experienced participants in the championship of Russia. The first place among the younger girls was taken by Dina Zhilkina (PC "Vodnik").
In total, 303 riders from 16 regions of Russia took part in the competitions.
