An interview with a man who worked on the interiors of the racer / cruiser version of the monotype Rodion Luka Luka30
When I was contacted by the founder of the design Bureau of the Stas.Studio Stanislav Azarov, I was surprised to learn from the letter that he worked on the sensational monotype Luka 30 Ukrainian sailor Rodion Luka. Why sensational? First, because this project was recently included in the shortlist for the category “Best sailing yacht of the year” by Sailing World. Second, because in the sailing community was (yet unconfirmed) rumors that Luka 30 will be the class of the international sailing Federation will elect for the new Olympic trials — mixed offshore racing keel twos. Why surprised? Because on the official website of Luka 30 does not mention the contribution to the project by Russian designer. Intrigued, I asked Stanislav Azarov to give itBoat for a short interview.
Tell us a little about how you began the Studio, how did the idea to devote himself to the yacht design.
I founded a design Bureau for marine interior Stas. Studio seven years ago in Moscow. Initially, I worked on the design of residential and public interiors. In fact, I still continue to do it. I took any job from small apartments to the design of residential units. Overall, from my pen came out good projects.
It would be possible to continue along this beaten track, to create at least good, but everyday “normal” design decisions. But I always something was missing.
I wanted to do something more meaningful, beautiful, sea, though, and can be, and despite the fact that I spent my life in a huge metropolis. There was little of nature, there is no sea, and at times difficult to even see the horizon. Home cover the sun.
My main hobby was, is and will be yachting. I’m an inveterate traveler, a connoisseur of yacht aesthetics and adept Maritime lifestyle. At some point I realized what I was missing in my work. Eureka! It is necessary to cross the interior design and yacht! Thus was born the concept of marine interior. I create not only the interiors of yachts, but also adapt marine interiors for residential spaces. Interior design — the most important component in every person’s life, because a pleasant atmosphere and comfort of a positive impact on the overall mood and feeling. This is especially important to keep in mind while creating the interior design of the yacht.
I even came up with a definition — nauticouturié. Marine, designer, if in Russian.
As far as I know, you are a yachtsman of the class “Star”. How this sports experience has enriched you as a designer?
Recently I really started to grasp the skills of managing a yacht of a class “Star”. A former Olympic class — one of the most challenging and technical in the world. Well, controls — steering, and I — sheet. Our crew participates in opportunities in all Russian and international competitions. This year managed to attend the championship and District championship in the class “Star” and fared well, taking places in the top ten. For us, as for the novice crew, I think this is a great achievement, because among our rivals was the strongest international teams, “Satanist” which is calculated by years, if not decades!
The boat itself sports. She’s keel, but is used solely for sporting purposes. To talk about the “interior” there is, of course, is not necessary. But, visiting various marinas in the world, plunging into this world, I enriched the overall “nasmotrennost” different ships, so to speak. When visiting a yacht exhibition, yacht clubs, being constantly in this environment, I pay attention to design solutions that are used in the naval architecture of the yacht.
I have one of the largest libraries in Russia in the yacht photos — more than 100 albums. Yes, and I will soon publish a book of his own photos of boat trips and yachting lifestyle in General.
Was surprised to learn that you participated in the design of 30 Luka Rodion Luka. The fact that the site class as a designer appears Justin Yacht Design. Tell us how you participated in the project.
Yes, Andrej Justin with Rodion Luka has created a beautiful boat with great lines, ease and speed characteristics. L30 is really the gem that was waiting for the world community. The only thing inside it was quite “empty”. Perhaps such a task is initially established and is not compromised. To expand the functionality of the L30 and its transformation from a purely racing sailboat racing cruiser customers were tasked to rework the interior for a comfortable stay on Board is not only experienced riders but also family crews.
After determining the functionality I created the interior, which answers any inquiries of exquisite taste yachtsmen.
Comfortable saloon, finished in soft and wood paneling, galley with stove and holodilnika, guest (half-open cabins or berths). In the design used innovative, durable and lightweight materials so as not to impair the characteristics (such as weight or speed). This solution is offered to the boat optional, may not be all it should be.
What yacht projects you have worked on?
One of the most inspiring for me for the last time for me was the project of a houseboat Alexander Klimchuk. Synergy house and boats in one! Large two storey house with all the functionality, while still self-propelled. We have developed three options for style solutions, from the “sea” to “minimalistic”. It is the perfect solution for those who want to live closer to the water and not experience any discomfort associated with limited space.
I also worked on leveling the interior of the sailing yacht Beneteau Oceanis 45. The client wanted to remodel and update your interior after 15 years of active sailing life.
Managed to work with the yacht club “Pirogovo”, where in the near future will be a standard residence. They developed the solution for the interior in Maritime style.
What kind of boat you can say: sorry, I’m not over her job?
I never have no regrets. If something does not happen, then all ahead!
The work of some yacht designers do you admire?
Generally I’m a fan of the Scandinavian school of shipbuilding. I am very impressed with their approach and vision of what should be a sailing yacht. Such shipyards as Leonardo Yachts, Eee, Contest (they have been in the shipyard as an invited guest), LA Boats & by bootsbau and others. Would love to work with them. Also, I should mention the work of Igor Lobanov. For me it is the inspiration and example of exceptional performance. He knows how to set goals and to translate them into projects.
What is the main trend in yacht design, in your opinion?
If we are talking about external, it seems to me, is very interesting to look futuristic projects folami, reverse nose and a margin of autonomy. Also I can not mention electric motors. In my opinion, this is the perfect solution for coastal shipping.
