“This regatta was very productive.”
The second stage of the 2020 World Cup in Olympic disciplines has ended at the Sailing Center of the US team in Miami. Moreover, not in all: competitions were held in seven out of ten disciplines.
The regatta was attended by 182 yachtsmen from 45 countries. Most of them represented the states of North America: for them, this stage of the Cup was the last opportunity to win Olympic tickets to the Tokyo 2020 regatta. As a result, three licenses went to Mexico, two to Canada and one each to the United States and Trinidad and Tobago.
For the small Russian delegation, the Cup stage was, by and large, training – and from this point of view successful: all of us got into the medal races.
Pavel Sozykin and Denis Gribanov (470) took the final 7th place (they are 8th in the medal race).
Alexey Selivanov (Finn) also became the 7th (9th in the medal race).
Valeria Lomatchenko (“Laser Radial”) in the final 10th place, although if the medal race was more successful for her (there she became 8th), she could be in sixth position! So tightly a large group of girls is located in the table.
“The medal race was very tough, constant wind arrivals and arrivals, as in lake water areas,” Lomatchenko told the press service of the Sailing Academy of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. – There were a lot of unexpected situations. It is clear that the start was bad, then the Italian crashed into me, it was spun. I unscrewed, went into the sunset and recouped on the first sign. She walked well on the fordewinds, but still made many mistakes. During this regatta, I made many shortcomings, made conclusions and corrected them, and I still have to work on some errors. There is room to grow. I believe that from the point of view of training and preparation for the World Championship in the Laser Radial class, this regatta was very productive. "
