I will be elected for a second term!
World Sailing President Kim Andersen announced his decision to run for a second term.
The other day, Kim Andersen gave an interview to the online publication insidethegames, in which he spoke about all the problems that he encountered during his tenure as president of World Sailing.
In particular, on the eve of the 2016 elections, he was concealed from him about the poor financial situation of the federation, especially the fact that the lease term for the office in Southampton is coming to an end. Thus, the transfer of headquarters was a necessary step, for the preparation of which was only 4 months.
But despite all the difficulties and criticism from his opponents, Mr. Andersen managed to achieve the goals set by the IOC for WS: to achieve gender equality in the Olympic program, introduce e-sailing, and most importantly to increase interest in sailing.
Elections should be held as part of the annual World Sailing conference, which begins November 1 in Abu Dhabi. But in connection with the global pandemic COVID-19, its implementation is in question. According to Kim Andersen, the final decision will be made after a meeting with the constitutional committee no later than June.
The only electoral candidate for the presidency of the international federation will be Gerardo Zeliger (Spain, born in 1947).
We add that Kim Andersen is a dragon dragon, European champion in this class and is a close friend of our magazine. His first official visit abroad as WS President took place a few days after the November 2016 election for the Yachtsman of the Year Award Ceremony
