Vendée Globe: start on November 8
The good news: there is, imagine, a regatta in the world that they do not plan to postpone or cancel!
In a sense, the Vendée Globe 2020/21 singles round-the-world race was lucky: its start in the French Le Sables d’Olonne was originally scheduled for November 8th. At this point, many of the current problems associated with the coronavirus pandemic will already be resolved. In any case, Yves Owine, the head of the organizing committee of the race, really wants to believe in this.
“We are doing everything to launch the 9th Vendée Globe at the highest level,” Owine said in a press release released yesterday. “At the same time, we are following the developments in France and around the world most attentively.”
According to the head of the organizing committee, preparations for the Vendée Globe are going well. Unless there were understandable problems with the transatlantic New York – Vendée Les Sables-d’Olonne (the launch was originally scheduled for June 16), which is considered the dress rehearsal of the circumnavigation. Now the organizers are hastily deciding how to replace this race so that 27 skippers signed up for participation can test themselves in a serious regatta.
