Those who regularly visit our page on Facebook, already know about the success of Russian athletes at the world Championships for the winter sailing WISSA 2020. But here are additional details from the press service of the Academy sailing of the Yacht club of Saint-Petersburg.
In the water area of the Finnish lake Lestijärvi 14 Feb ended world Cup WISSA 2020. Initially the regatta was to take Estonia, but due to the fact that the winter in most parts of Northern Europe did not come, it was decided to postpone the competition in the Northern Finnish town of Lestijärvi.
The organizers made it almost impossible. For some two weeks after the decision on the postponement of the world Cup they managed to prepare the event on an international scale. The competition was attended by over 100 riders from 12 countries.
For four days the athletes were able to race in different weather conditions. Coating on lake Lestijärvi has varied almost every day: from crust to bare ice and ice with water.
The main feature of the world Cup WISSA – the Union of any structures, using to move wind energy (with the exception of snowmobiles). In the main program of the event traditionally includes winter surfing, Snowkiting and wings. Main discipline course-flight racing with the movement of the wind and under the wind, where the traditionally strong Russian riders. Course-flight is held for all classes of a series of races (7 – 15 starts in the series).
In the class Snowkiting course-race – ski won the sportsman of the Academy of sailing and Krestovsky island Nikita Kodanev. In 15 races he never dropped below second spot and earned to 16.9 points. Hard fighting he imposed another racer Academy novel Pets, who gave Nikita a minimum of three points.
“The last race was quite tense because between the leaders was a very small points difference, – says Nikita Kodanev. – All the guys are cool was a good race. Many thanks to the organizers that they were able to move and in a short time to organize the competition. In Finland, there were very good conditions – both in terms of organization and weather conditions. Four days of racing were cool, fun and interesting.”
Among women the best was also the athlete of the Academy Elena Kalinina. In the overall standings, she finished in seventh place.
In the class Snowkiting course-race – snowboard was fighting to the very last race. The fate of the Golden medal was decided in an internal struggle between the pilots of the Academy and of Krestovsky island – Nikita Sokolov and Valerie Garashchenko. In the standings of the athletes were separated by just 2.6 points.
“After the first race day I was the second, so I had an incentive to rehabilitate, says “academician” Nikita Sokolov. – Fortunately, I was able to rectify problems with equipment. In the following days as I worked and struggled for the first place. The fight for victory went on till the last race.”
“The waters in Finland are very interesting, – says Valery Garashchenko. We went to the races at almost all of our sizes: 11, 15, 18, 21-h Coating was the same every day: snow, ice, ice water, present. We were happy to race here. I recently returned from a three-week training camp in Spain. I am happy to see finally the snow and to ride through the winter.”
