Race Round the Island Race around the Isle of Wight has challenged the famous “Barcolana” in Trieste: last Saturday it was attended by 1,200 yachts!
The distance of the race with start and finish in Cowes, which is held since 1931, is small – only 50 nautical miles. However, for many participants, the Round the Island Race-2019 this distance was insurmountable in the time limit managed to fit all 257 yachts. And this is out of 1200! Too easy was a breeze.
First to the finish line, becoming the winner of line honours, came the 100-foot trimaran Actual Leader of the French skipper Yves Le Blevio: 50 miles he traveled over 7 hours, 33 minutes and 36 seconds.
While the main prize, the gold Roman bowl went to the smallest yacht in the fleet, an 18-foot Eeyore and her skipper Joe Richards, who finished in 13:36.11.
Its success Richards not surprised at all, saying:
Actually a couple of times in this race we were the second. Then we had to get lucky?
