Announced that the first official world championship of offshore racing will be held in October 2020 as part of the famous 600-mile Rolex Middle Sea Race.
As is known, a decision in principle to organize such a championship the international sailing Federation World Sailing – adopted in 2017.
The first tournament was originally planned for this year. Now, however, the conduct of the offshore world championship has been postponed. It will be held in October 2020 in the framework of the 600-mile race Rolex Middle Sea Race, and its organizer, in addition to the World Sailing, will be the Royal Malta Yacht club.
Depending on the weather conditions for the championship participants will be invited to complete all 600 miles of the race – or part of it.
The final decision on what the courts will pass the championship is still pending. But we know that it will be monotypes, and that there will be exactly 20. Each boat – two members, a man and a woman representing the national team.
According to the President of the World Sailing by Kim Andersen, “the world Cup 2020 in offshore races will be the first step for offshore racers who dream about participating in the Olympic games in 2024. We expect that the tournament will be for teams a serious test of their skills in the world famous waters.”
