Vasily Bogdanov and Nikita Chernykh
became winners of the virtual regatta "Electronic Armada 2020".
This regatta was organized by the Academy of Sailing and the Yacht Club of St. Petersburg, it was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
On May 14 and 15 at the Electronic Armada 2020 regatta, winners were determined in two age categories – up to 14 and up to 18 years. The final series consisted of 10 races (5 races per day) with two outliers of the worst arrivals. In total, 150 racers from 34 regions of Russia took part in the tournament. All of them were divided into three age groups. Races were held for six days, starting on May 9th.
In the age category up to 14 years, throughout the regatta, we watched the correspondence struggle between Nikita Chernykh and Andrei Shunenkov (both – the Academy of Sailing). In the final series, they finally were able to identify the strongest in a full-time duel. The guys showed their best qualities during the final, alternately breaking ahead in the standings. The fate of the gold award was decided in the last race, where the bronze medalist of OptiOrange 2020 Nikita Chernykh turned out to be a little luckier. The victory in the 10th race ensured him a three-point lead over Andrei. The third finished another athlete of the Academy of Sailing Stepan Collectors.
“In the finals of the virtual regatta Electronic Armada 2020, I had a fairly strong opponent – Andrei Shunenkov,” says the winner of the tournament Nikita Chernykh. “I studied all his strengths and weaknesses in advance and managed to win at the expense of my tactics.”
In the age category under 18 years, the struggle for victory turned out to be a little more predictable. After the first five races of the final series, an athlete from Sevastopol Vasily Bogdanov broke away from his closest pursuer, Pavel Sobchenko from Sochi, by four points. During the second race day, Vasily skillfully kept his advantage and brought the matter to victory. But the fate of the bronze medal was decided in the very last race. Due to the rough misfire of his rival, Kirill Shunenkov of the Academy of Sailing managed to rise to third place.
“The rivals walked quite tightly with me,” says the winner Vasily Bogdanov (Sevastopol, SSHOR No. 1). – Up to the penultimate race, it was not clear who would still be the first. Of course, compared with the first such regatta "Electronic Sails" riders gained experience and showed themselves much better. I think that virtual regattas are very cool, but still I would like to see you soon on the water. "
