Less than five minutes
applications for participation in the famous 605-mile Rolex Fastnet Race between England and Ireland, which is considered one of the heaviest offshore races in the world, continued.
If absolutely exactly – 4 minutes and 37 seconds. That was enough for the “Fastnet” application list – 340 yachts – to be closed. Late – and this is a good hundred applications – put on a waiting list. They can only hope that one of the lucky ones will refuse to participate.
The speed with which the application list was filled, you see, makes an impression. However, this is not a record. Call for applications for the 2017 race (Rolex Fastnet Race is held every two years) lasted 4 minutes 24 seconds!
Among those on the main list are yachts from 25 countries. Most of them – 201 – represent the UK. This is followed by France (81 boats) and Holland (33). As always, Russian yachts will take part in “FastNet”. However, while the organizers of the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) – not reported their exact number.
Recall that “Fastnet” has been held since 1925. This time the race starts on August 3 – two weeks earlier than usual.
