On the emerald coast of Sardinia, the Yacht club Costa Smeralda on September 16 ended in the first ever world championship in the yacht class ClubSwan50. By results of competitions the team of the Yacht club of Saint-Petersburg “Battleship” finished in step away from medals in fourth place.

Competition for the right to become the first world champion in ClubSwan50 took place over five days in the framework of the anniversary forum of the famous yacht of the Finnish shipyard Nautor’s Swan, and attracted 12 teams from eight countries. All in all, to compete in the Sardinia arrived over 100 boats hailing from Finland, for the different classes and ages.

“Battleship” took start in the regatta, finishing after the first day of racing, September 11, the fourth line. Then followed a bad day, when the club team went down the standings. The turning point was the third day of competition, when “Battleship” came back in the top five, but to resume the pursuit of medals allowed the second finish in the 30-mile coastal race.

In the end, it was the final two races on the last day of the competition. In the first command of the Yacht club came in third, but the last, the tenth race of the championship “Battleship” was only the eighth.

“Our result can be considered positive, as this is only our third regatta in the class ClubSwan50 this year, while most of the contenders for the medals of the world championship held at five, says skipper “Battleship” Vladimir Liubomirov. Probably the fourth line is exactly the result we deserve, and which will become the starting point in the new season of the class.”

The first title of world champion in the class ClubSwan50 won the German crew OneGroup, which earlier this year won the prestigious Copa del Rey and won the “Nations Cup” class ClubSwan50 is the trophy awarded on the results of four-class regattas in the season of 2018.

In turn, ClubSwan50 “Battleship” spent three regattas this season: was fourth in March in Monaco and fifth in the COP del Rey in August.

The new season starts in 2019 APR traditional class regatta in Monaco.
