At the Virtual Regatta Cup of Russia “Electronic Sails 2020”, the qualification was completed and the names of all the semi-finalists of the largest virtual regatta in Russia became known.
On the second race day of the Russian Cup in Virtual Regatta, the most experienced athletes in the age category over 18 entered the fight. The day before, we could watch the qualification series of riders who are the future of domestic sailing. Today, real stars took the stage – Olympic participant Anna Basalkina, winner of the National Sailing League Boris Kucherenko, Bronenosec Sailing Team yachtsmen Alexei Kulakov and Kirill Frolov, Russian national team driver in RS: X class Vladislav Burmistrenko, vice world champion in the Micro class »Alexey Bunzy and many others.
The age category over 18 years is the most popular on the Electronic Sails 2020. This group showed the most participants. That is why the organizers allocated a separate day for the senior athletes for qualification. From 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., riders from 10 groups of 16-17 people each figured out which of them deserves a ticket to the final of the Russian Cup in Virtual Regatta. At stake was not only prestige and an honorary champion title, but also a solid prize fund of the regatta. In the next stage were the five best yachtsmen from each group. The qualification series consisted of five races with one throw of the worst result.
The most impressive result in qualification was shown by Krestovsky Island athlete Boris Kucherenko. Before the start of the virtual regatta, the titled yachtsman in class 470 joked that smartphones were not his hobby, but in fact everything turned out exactly the opposite. Kucherenko won the first four races for a clear advantage, but decided not to go to the fifth. The closest competitor of Boris – Yevgeny Morev – was eight points behind him. With such a powerful performance, Kucherenko clearly made a serious bid for the final victory. Closest to his grandmaster result was the Sochi yachtsman Andrei Ignatenko. Andrey has three victories and one second parish.
In the remaining groups, the struggle for victory was much more intense.
“A virtual regatta is a good alternative to our beloved sailing, which, for objective reasons, we can’t do right now,” says Boris Kucherenko, a repeated winner of the Russian championships in class 470. – A lot of my friends and acquaintances participate in the regatta. Thus, we can somehow compete and see each other. In my opinion, this is very cool. "
