Today at 11 a.m. Paris time (13.00 Moscow time) in Brest was the start of race four Maxi-trimaran class Ultim – Brest Atlantiques. Distance – 14 thousand nautical miles.
As you know, the original launch was scheduled for Sunday, but was prevented by a violent storm in the Bay of Biscay. The race was postponed for two days, and today, the rivals went. To be more precise – rushed from the start, driven by a North – North-westerly wind, with speed of about 30 knots.
On the route Brest Atlantiques we mentioned, but definitely worth repeating. From Brest – across the Atlantic to the coast of Brazil. There trimarans have to walk around the Islands Cagarras (five kilometers from Rio) and take a course on South Africa, and get to it, go around Robben island (12 km from Cape town) – then to turn back to Brest.
Now about the participants. Each crew – two skippers (so the race, it turns out, double-handed). But there is a third member of the team. This is a reporter who needs to regularly publish the news and photos. To manage the trimaran he has no right.
And finally, let’s call them trimarans. This is the Actual Leader (skippers – Yves Le Blevio /Alex Pella), Macif (françois Gabaret /Gwenola the Gain), Maxi Edmond de Rothschild (Frank Kamma /Charles Cedrela) and Sodebo Ultim 3 (Volume Covill /Jean-Luc Nelia),
The first line – Cape Finisterre – the participants must cover approximately 23.00 Moscow time.
In the picture: the first mile; Macif after the start went a little bit North of three of their rivals.
