According to the website of the WFTU with reference to the press service of the talk-2019, the icy expanses of lake Onega hosted the eighth international forwarding annual winter kite-marathon TRANS-Onego Kite Enduro.
Snow, Blizzard, storm gusty wind, the frost of minus 15. Running downwind in zero visibility, on instruments. It is necessary not to lose the partner, 4 days in a fully Autonomous mode to go 13 waypoints. That’s what expedition race for survival.
The route distance with a length of 333 kilometers on the course began and ended in the capital of Karelia, Petrozavodsk, passed through beacon of monak, lighthouse Garnecki, sandy village (Pudozh district), island of Kizhi, Suisar, the city of Kondopoga.
Athletes overcame the distance on skis, using as driving force the kite sail, from start to finish were offline and independently transported all their camping equipment on special sledge. In the period from 21 hours to 7 hours racers, according to the rules of the competition, stayed overnight in the place where they were in the moment and put the tent despite the wind storm and a snowstorm.
At the start there were 35 teams (for 2 people), with participants from most regions of Russia, and also representatives of Finland, France, Czech Republic, Romania.
For four days and three nights the athletes fought not only among themselves over who’s quicker on the distance, but also with those complexities, which are in abundance presented them with the Karelian spring. Frost at 15 degrees and difficult wind conditions (from complete calm, to stormy winds from variable directions and turbulence), snowstorm, Blizzard, reducing visibility.
Fortunately, the surface of the ice and snow was this year as never before smooth, almost without hummocks. This contributed to the good course of the race.
The main criterion for success of most teams was a good physical preparation, preparation of equipment, consistency in the team, psychological compatibility, iron shutter. Almost all starters of the team crossed lake Onega West to East. Most continued the race further on the control points on which duty volunteers (also from many regions of Russia), and got credit in the final table by number and time “taken” KP.
To finish in Petrozavodsk managed to get only 13 teams, the last of which crossed the finish line in 15 minutes(!) before closing the race window.
Traveled to race the distance, considering looked like, made have finished teams 450-500 kilometers and more. March 8 all the participants were gathered at base camp (hotel “Space”) where the following day held an awards ceremony.
The first and second step of the podium took the same team as last year.
Gold medals won by the world Champions for expedition kiting Dmitry Nikulichev from Petrozavodsk and Eduard Radaev from polar (the “Northern Express”), silver – Maxim Maximov Ekaterinburg and Kirill Litvinov from Nizhny Tagil (“sky country”), bronze – Sergei Samushyn and Manoilin Ivan from Saint-Petersburg (“Burgos”).
Athletes, fans, and numerous spectators who watched the race on the tracking system, noted the high level of organization, operational coordination with all emergency services, administrations, ministries and expressed their common desire to continue and develop this winter regatta, which has already become a landmark not only for the country but also having high reputation and status in the international scale.
