Today in Petrozavodsk the traditional annual Onega regatta-2020 starts. For several days now, participants have arrived at the Sands yacht club, where the regatta will open and close. The main fleet will consist of quarter-ton and Open 800 class yachts; for them, the competition will have the status of the championship of Russia. The remaining test groups will be formed with a sufficient number of yachts of other classes.
Onega regatta has been held since 1972. This year, the Republic of Karelia celebrates its 100th anniversary, and the 49th Onega Regatta will become one of the significant events dedicated to this event.
Also today, a press conference for the crew of the Siberia yacht was held for participants and guests of the regatta, which entered Petrozavodsk, returning home from around the world.
Today registration and measurement will end, and then the opening ceremony of the regatta will take place. Starting tomorrow, a competitive program will begin – the yachts will go to the waters of the Petrozavodsk Bay, where a series of short races will take place.
The next day in the program is a 50-mile race to about. Kizhi, where teams can spend the night and visit the famous museum-reserve of wooden architecture. Next, the night start of the route race to about. Suisar (120 m.m.). Upon completion, it is planned to hold several short races off the island. The regatta will end with the transition to Petrozavodsk (50 m.m.) and the final coastal races.
The organizers of the regatta are the Quarterton fleet Association, the OPEN 800 class yacht Association, with the support of the Karelian Republican Sailing Federation.
