30th World University Games: after the first qualifying day, the Russian team is in 4th place
The first qualifying day of the sailing program of the 30th Summer Universiade ended in Naples. According to the website http://www.parusniy-sport.org, the organizers, as planned, conducted 9 qualifying races. The Russian team took part in 5 of them.
The weather gave hot sunny weather, wind of 8-10 knots and a small but unpleasant wave. The teams needed a lot of effort to disperse the boat. An unpleasant moment for many was the backlash in the mount of the keel, which contributed to the fact that the boat stopped on the wave. A non-trivial situation – calling on the right side, and strengthening on the left – also contributed to the uncertainty.
The distance was set fairly short, and much decided the start, and the appointment of a penalty kick to any yacht fatally threw her back. The tension of the teams was great, so it was not without a lot of false starts. Especially a lot of them were in the first race.
The Russian team started the regatta is not very good, although in the first race after the disqualification of false starters received the 3rd result. In the second race, nervous tension affected: the maneuvers on the starting line led to the appointment of a penalty, and the crew eventually managed to overtake only 2 boats and finish sixth. The next race for our crew was the race number 4. With a brilliant start and competently carried out first tacking, our crew was the first to enter the first mark and then keep this leadership right up to the finish. Race 5, unfortunately, was unlucky for our guys – at certain moments they were in the lead, confidently walking in the top three, but before the finish on the full course the rear yachts arrived, one unsuccessful turn was fatal – touching another boat, a penalty and only 5 th result at the finish. The next race for our crew – race number 9 and the last race of the day was held in a confident mode – the guys took off well, took the third mark and saved this place until the finish.
Following the results of the first day 9 races were held. Crews passed from 5 to 6 races. The Finnish crew are currently the strongest shows – he has 4 first wards from 6 races. In second place is the team of Australia, in third place – the team of Germany. Our team shares the 4th place with the Singapore team. We remind you that 8 yachts reach the final, the places previously occupied in qualifying will be counted on points as one race and 4 final races will be held. There are still 23 qualifying races ahead.
