Systematic approach: the yacht club of Saint-Petersburg will train 100 volunteers for the summer regattas

Yacht club of St. Petersburg announced the start of recruitment of volunteers to participate in the pilot program of Sailing Events Volunteers — 2019. The first kick-off meeting will be held at the yacht club for 2 March and the second on March 23.

100 people who are interested in the project until the summer will be trained (including sailing practice), and then join the team of organizers of major international competitions.

They will need help during the offshore race the Nord Stream Race in Helsinki and in St. Petersburg (2-8 July) and also during the competitions, the Sailing Champions League, Sailing Champion League (3-7 July) and the National sailing League (11-14 July) at the Peter and Paul fortress during the world Junior championship in the Olympic class RS:X (3-11 August).

“Participation of volunteers is of great strategic importance: the volunteers create an atmosphere of hospitality and friendliness, they help to transmit the values and meanings for which there is an event, regatta, racing, festival,” — said the head of projects of the Yacht club of Saint-Petersburg Elena Solovyeva.

Volunteers will perform tasks in teams of technical support and service of hospitality. A separate category of volunteers constitute the so-called liaison officers — Liaison officers. So are the volunteers assigned to each team member who help visitors to navigate in a strange city and feel like at home and are the intermediaries between the athletes and competition organizers.
