If Jan and Ivan are experienced European fighters, for Chris and Victor this regatta was the first serious test after a long break.
Athletes were generally satisfied with their performances:
Jan Czech, steering, class 49:
“Preparations for the Cup of the Princess Sophia is in full swing.
This regatta came together, unlike the previous, mostly everything worked, the tasks set by the coach fulfilled.
Pleased that 80% of our major competitors were present. Class 49-th were generally most numerous on the regatta – 65. Was virtually all the strongest European countries, there was no “oceany” – Australians and new Zealanders (they will come for the Cup of Sofia), there was a strong Americans and Argentines
We had only 2 races that don’t really ask – we showed two 18 x parish.
It turned out to have a good rest before the race. At the last gathering, in Vilamoura, the regatta was at the end of the collection, we are exhausted after a week with a little intensive training. Now the regatta was held at the beginning of the collection, strength enough it was his role. But there are still a lot of work.
However, I do not believe that we have improved the result, rather Villemure we showed what we could, due to certain reasons”.
Ivan Zotov, Shkotovo, class 49:
“Add about the cool weather that is on Mallorca in the last time: the sun, heat and wind daily. We continue to work with coach Thomas Yanushevsky. Very satisfied with the training process, we are improving every race. As always, thank you Academy sailing and the Yacht club of Saint-Petersburg for giving us the opportunity and trust!”
Christian Czech, steering, class 470:
“The first regatta for us after returning on an international level was to weak winds. Of course, it was tough after the Russian competitions. Our main problem starts, all the same level of the fleet is very high, one just does the position not give. In General, evaluate the performance positively, was a good race content. Your opponents are all strong, many titled sportsmen, veterans of the class.
As our condition in comparison with Paul and Denis (by Sazykina and Gribanova leaders of the national team in the 470 class – approx. E. K.)? They clearly Nakatani, better oriented in the Navy. Good speed, we have much to learn from them…
What’s next? To 17 will be here to train, then a short break, returning on the 25th, have the 1st starts on April Princess Sophia. We will try to show everything I can and know how.”
