Tragedy off the coast of Australia
All the Australian news sites this morning reported: 7 kilometers off the coast of New South Wales in the Newcastle area, the catamaran rolled over: three out of five people on board were dead.
Details are not much. Weather conditions in the area did not contribute to sailing. Rain, strong waves, wind of 25 – 30 knots … Nevertheless, five on a catamaran with a length of 11.7 meters went out to sea.
What happened is a mystery. It is only known that one of the five activated an emergency beacon. The two survivors — a 16-year-old girl and a 40-year-old man — were in the water for a long time, clinging to an upturned ship, suffered from hypothermia (the water temperature in the area is about 17 degrees), is in serious condition and was urgently taken by helicopter to the nearest hospital . Rescuers found the bodies of three victims (they are all middle-aged people of sixty to seventy years old) in the water.
A terrible story. Peace be upon you
P.S. Catamaran. meanwhile, carries it further away from the coast. Under storm conditions, it is not possible to turn it over and tow it to the port.
