Universiade: we reached the final!
According to the website http://www.parusniy-sport.org, the last day of qualification in sailing competitions of the 30th World University Games was held in Naples.
With a weak and medium westerly wind, the organizers completely completed the rest of the qualification program – 7 races (altogether 32 races were held). Tension has accumulated – and even fatigue: the favorites of the past days made strong failures – for example, the Australian team recorded 6th and 5th parishes as assets, strong Singapore teams dropped to 8th and 5th places.
However, some teams that were not very impressive with a stable result also “rolled out”: the Japanese team finished the second twice, once the fourth. The team from Austria strongly advanced to third place in qualifying. All this made the fight very spectacular. Full course finishes in most races were tight, so sometimes a photo finish was needed to determine the order of the teams crossing the finish line.
For the Russian team, the final day was successful. The crew consisting of Dmitry Tretyakov, Ivan Volchkov, Marina Taran and Darya Fedyanina confidently fought for leadership in all races where he participated, and only some dramatic moments did not allow him to take the lines in the protocols a little higher. Total of the day: 4th, 3rd, 3rd and 2nd places.
According to the results of the whole qualification, the Russian crew retained the sixth place, and it lacked only one or two points to overtake the team that had previously gone far away from Singapore.
So, the result of qualification: the teams of Australia, Finland, Austria, two teams of Singapore, Russia, Germany, and Japan go to the final. All teams are more or less equal in skill, and much on Friday will depend on luck, but rather on psychological stability.
Each of the 8 teams has starting points corresponding to the place in the qualification. Our team comes out with 6 points. 4 races are planned in the final.
We wish our guys good luck and victory! We cheer for them!

P.S. Sailing is an optional form for the World Universiade: – the country hosting the Universiade chooses in which two optional sports to hold competitions. Sailing is now fighting for the right to be represented at the World Universiade 2023 in Yekaterinburg.
