“Sorry, we arrived late”

      “Sorry, we arrived late”
In late June, another European championship in the class “Optimist” ended in the French Crozone. Unfortunately, our athletes did not show their maximum: the best of the Russians was the debutant of the competition Daria Savinova from Vyborg, the only one who made it into the golden fleet and eventually became the 58th.

“Sorry, we arrived late”

We learned about the reasons for this performance from the national team coach Denis Razumovich:

“Unfortunately, the regatta was not as successful as we would like. Serious fears caused currents due to strong ebbs and flows, our guys are not used to chasing in such conditions. As a result, we more or less dealt with the currents, but this was not enough. In Crozone, a very wind was blowing; our athletes did not always guess the advantageous side, since there were no obvious signs of a change in direction.

Our girls were pleased: Daria Savinova and Arina Bratashenko were first at European competitions for the first time, and Dasha also showed the highest result and the only Russian to break into the gold fleet. After completing the qualification in the 20th place, she was followed by a psychological decline, plus a lack of international experience, as a result, Dasha finished in 58th place.

The lack of stability led all athletes, frank failures alternated with normal races. The end of qualification was especially upset, first of all 4-5 races, almost all our athletes failed in them, in the end only Dasha made it into the golden fleet.

There are always prerequisites for showing a higher result, but we must learn to work in a specific area. Unfortunately, we arrived late, on the day of registration, and did not have time to hold a full gathering on the eve of the regatta.

We will optimize the calendar and preparation system, start preparing earlier. ”
