Great forgotten brave
According to the American website www.twincities.com, Jerry Spis died at the age of 80 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
This news did not cause much interest – even in sailing circles. Well, he died … What is, in fact, surprising: in the late seventies – early eighties of the last century, Spis was a world famous sailing celebrity.
In 1979, on the self-made yacht Yankee Girl, he single-handedly crossed the Atlantic, and two years later – the Pacific Ocean. America both times met him as a national hero. Yes, he was a hero!
Just imagine: at the length of his Yankee Girl was only 3.05 meters. In width – 1.67 meters. Baby
Grimace of fate: the years passed and the great brave Jerry Spis was forgotten. Even in his homeland. It happens.
Peace be upon you
And if you want to know more about this amazing person, then here is the link. Our magazine once published a great essay about Spies –
