      Interchange in Cascais
On Saturday in Cascais the 24th HM King Juan Carlos regatta ended in two races, which was also the second stage of the new European series in the Dragon class. And this conclusion, we emphasize, turned out to be extremely dramatic.

Recall what the situation was in the table after three days of the regatta and 6 races. Ahead – to our delight – was the Russian yacht RUS27 Anatoly Loginov, 25 points. The MON2 team from Monaco, Jens Ratsak, was one point less. In third place – with 27 points – was the Swiss SUI311 by Hugo Stenbeck, but RUS76 Dmitry Samokhin had the same number of points. And, finally, another point more – 28 – in the British GBR820 with skipper Grant Gordon.

The results of the first Saturday race, which took place with a breeze of slightly more than 10 knots, further increased the general tension. The Dutch NED412 skipper Peter Heerem won it. Gordon, Stenbeck, Samokhin and Loginov followed him to the finish. And now the situation turned out to be quite confusing: Gordon, Stenbek and Loginov had 30 points each, Samokhin’s 31 points, while Heerem and Ratsak had 35 points. And each of them could claim a final victory. Everything had to decide the race number 8.

Wind speed at the time of launch exceeded already 20 knots. And here came the denouement: five crews (including the Loginov team!) Violated the U-flag rule. Disqualification – and the end of all hope!

Gordon won the decisive race – he won the regatta. And this is how its first five looks like:

1. Grant Gordon – GBR820 – 12, 1, 3, 7, (UFD), 5, 2, 1 = 31
2. Hugo Stenbeck – SUI311 – 2, (23), 12, 1, 8, 3, 3, 3 = 33
3. Peter Heerema – NED412 – 7, 2, (16), 8, 1, 16, 1, 2 = 37
4. Dmitry Samokhin – RUS76 – 2, (21), 9, 9, 5, 2, 4, 7 = 38
5. Jens Ratsak – MON2 – 11, 6, 2, 6, (UFD), 1, 9, 4 = 39

Team Loginova, outdated by disqualification, remained seventh – 50 points, parishes 20 – 3 – 7 – 3 – 6 – 6 – 5 – (UFD).

Our publisher Vasily Senatorov (who, with pride, we remind you, is the head of the International Association of the Dragon class) on RUS34 took 12th place. Victor Fogelson (RUS37) – 17th.

The next, the third stage of the European series in the class "Dragon" will be held July 3 – 6 in Kuhlungsborn (Germany).
