Another tragedy from Borkum

0.15 yesterday in local time with a 13-metre yacht on channel 16 in the Dutch rescue centre Den Helder received a MayDay signal.

The captain of a Dutch sailing yacht was reported that the boat collided with an unknown floating object, opened strong flow to stop which forces the team (two sailors and a cat) is not possible. The boat was about two nautical miles to the North of Borkum and threatened to sink. Immediately centre Den Helder sent the emergency call to the Management on liquidation of consequences of the disaster of the German society for the rescue of sunken ships (DGzRS).

The experts informed the crew of the rescue ship Alfried Krupp stationed on one of the Islands of the North sea. In addition, they appealed for help in Emshaven rescue bot JAN EN TITIA VISSER Dutch subsidiaries KNRM and called search and rescue helicopter of the German Navy.

But even before the arrival of the marine rescue service to the scene came a German pilot boat FRESENA and the Dutch pilot the boat LYRA. The last crew took on Board a woman and a cat, the man originally did not want to leave his boat. Only after the professional rescuers were at the scene, he went over to Alfried Krupp. There gave his wife a cat. Sailors were not injured and, despite everything, felt good.

But to rescue a sailing yacht.
Dutch rescuers tried to stop the ingress of water by powerful bilge pump, but – although he was very strong – they failed. They had to abandon the idea of rescue of a sailing yacht. But before she went under water, the crew Jan en Titia Visser tried to drag her into shallow water.

But, unfortunately, a strong South-West wind (up to five points) is not allowed to neatly put the boat on the sand. The ship sank. Now the causes of the accident will be investigated by the water police Wilhelmshaven.
