      Yesterday, the famous British yachtsman Alex Thomson was awarded the French Order of Merit. The ceremony took place at the French Embassy in the United Kingdom.

<p>In presenting the award, the French ambassador Jean-Pierre Jouyet stressed that in this way the contribution of the “great champion Thomson” to the popularization of the sail – and sports in general was noted. </p>
<p>The 45-year-old Briton, for his part, noted that the brightest moments of his sports biography are associated precisely with France – and with the French, whose passionate love for sail is known throughout the world.  </p>
<p>The Order of Merit is the fourth most important award of France. In the comments of the French media today it is emphasized that usually this award is given to much older people.</p>
