The Russian Prize was conceived as the Russian analogue of the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards, which is awarded to sailors for outstanding achievements in the sail. For the first time, the solemn ceremony of the “Yachtsman of the Year” award was held in Russia in 2009, and even then it was different from similar ceremonies in the UK, USA, France, Germany … Over the years, the “Russian version” completely acquired its own face – the award became truly popular, absolutely democratic. Evidence of this is the full halls during its holding and the applause of the audience, meeting each winner and thereby approving the jury's choice, and these are honored athletes, travelers, coaches, whose authority is undeniable.
The Russian award has more nominations than foreign ones, since its organizers wanted all people related to sailing not to be left out. The children and organizers of the regattas were not forgotten, of course, the coaches, the journalists were not left without attention, and most importantly, the veterans.
Everyone deserves it! And – see you in a year, at the XII ceremony of awarding the National Award “Yachtsman of the Year”!
