Will the record fall?
The 26th day of the race began along the famous Tea Route from Hong Kong to London, which is continued by French skipper Francis Jouillon and his crew of four on the IDEC Sport maxi-trimaran.
The last 48 hours have been extremely dramatic for Jouillon and Co. By the time the equatorial calm strip was finally left behind, IDEC Sport had finally lost its advantage over the virtual rival – the current owner of the Tea Race record – the Maserati Multi 70 max trimaran with skipper Giovanni Soldini (2018). Moreover, IDEC Sport began to lose the schedule of Maserati. And only with huge efforts Francis Jouillon managed to turn the tide.
Now, at 2:30 p.m. (Moscow time) on Wednesday, IDEC Sport is again ahead of the Maserati Multi 70 schedule: Zhuillon's advantage is 107 miles. But it is far from the fact that it will be possible to increase or simply maintain it. Ahead of the team of Zhuillon – a giant area of low pressure. How to overcome it with the least loss? That is the question.
12,554 nautical miles have been covered at an average speed of 20.9 knots. There are still 2,748 nautical miles remaining to finish in London.
