Three times happiness!
The world championship in the class of yachts "Optimist" ended on the island of Antigua. Gold for the third time in a row went to Italian Marco Gradoni. Maria Perello from Spain became the best among girls, also for the third time in a row (overall, she is 25th).
Gradoni's advantage over rivals was overwhelming. In 12 qualifying and final races, he finished first 7 times and twice second – amazing stability! As a result, the nearest pursuer – Richard Shulteys (Malta) – was Gradoni ahead by 19 points, and the third prize winner – Spaniard Jaime Ayarzu – by 30!
Only one thing can serve as a consolation for Italian rivals: Gradoni is 15 years old, and he will not be performing more in the world championships in the class “Optimist”. Age…
As for the representatives of our country, we recall, by the results of the qualifications, they ended up in the Bronze Fleet. Alas, and there were no shine. But, you know yourself: for one beaten …
Here are the places occupied by the Russians:
140. Fedor Krivobokov. … 157. Ivan Zhilkin. … 166. Maxim Bondar. 167. Artem Maksimkin. … 173. Danila Ivanov.
In the team races, our guys, unfortunately, are also not pleased. Here is what the team leader of the Russian team, Alexei Kozhayev, told the press service of the All-Russian Association of Optimist class yachts:
“The team races turned out to be unsuccessful: our team took off on the first day after two races, lost the strongest team of Argentina in the first race (they ended up 4 in the end), and the second race was lost in many ways by chance, Poland, in the end, to go further failed. Italians won the team race, losing in the course of the meeting the Thais, the third place in the team of Peru ".
The leader of the Italians was, of course, the same Gradoni. So with Antigua, he takes away two gold at once.
