On June 8, the first stage of the regatta “Optimists of the Northern Capital. Gazprom Cup.
“Optimists of the Northern Capital. Gazprom Cup ”is the largest series of children's sailing regattas in Russia. St. Petersburg Yacht Club The sailing academy has been holding competitions since 2012. The general partner is PJSC Gazprom.
Both experienced athletes and beginners take part in the regatta series. For many children, this regatta was the first real sports competition in life. The age of participants was from 9 to 15 years.
This time 98 young sailors in five test groups came to the start of the regatta: Girls, Boys, Younger Girls, Younger Boys and Cadets (those who are engaged in the first year).
On the first day of the wind was not enough for the competition, so all the races were postponed to June 8. On the second day, the wind force was 3-4 knots, so the organizers held all three races, slightly reducing the distance.
In the overall standings, won the athlete of the Academy of sailing Cyril Shunenkov, who won all three races. Silver was won by a graduate of Krestovsky Island, Danil Ivanov, and the third was Daniil Perchik from the Raftu DSPK. Shunenkov and Perchik will represent Russia at the upcoming European Championship, and Ivanov – at the World Championship.
“For me, the races were good,” says the winner of the “Optimists of the Northern Capital. Gazprom Cup Kirill Shunenkov. – I took a good start in almost all races. I was not very comfortable chasing in such conditions – I had to sit more inside and work as a body. In the camp, we are well prepared for the European Championships, I really like the waters of the port of Johannes. So on the European championship fighting attitude ".
Among the girls first place was taken by Alisa Ivanovskaya (“Rautu” DSPK), who finished in ninth place in the overall standings and bypassed almost all young men.
"Today was quite a hard racing day, because there was almost no wind," said the best athlete among girls. “Because of this, it was difficult. I am pleased with how was distilled. For me, this is a pretty successful regatta. It was hard for me to compete immediately after the Optimist Class Association Cup. Most of all, I am tired not physically, but emotionally and psychologically. ”
The solemn ceremony of awarding the winners was attended by Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Board of PJSC Gazprom, Natalia Antyukh, Chairman of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports, and Vladimir Lyubomirov, Commander of the Yacht Club.

In addition to presenting valuable prizes and medals, Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Board of PJSC Gazprom, presented Optimist with a sail to the winner of the competition, Cyril Shunenkov.
