On the route Tallinn – Helsinki – Kotka
Less than a week remains before the start of the 8th international Baltic regatta “Ust-Luga Cup” 2019. This year it starts on Saturday, June 8, in Tallinn. The regatta will be held on the route Tallinn – Helsinki – Kotka and will end with the awarding ceremony for winners on June 15 in St. Petersburg.
Ust-Luga Cup meets its eighth season with the rank of the largest amateur sailing regatta in the Baltic. Over the past years, about 30 teams from five countries took part in the competition: representatives of Russia, Germany, Holland, Finland and Estonia took to the races. The very first race under the motto "One sea, one profession, one destiny!" were held in the summer of 2012 and were dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Ust-Luga Sea Trade Port. Since then, the basis of the teams participating in the regatta has traditionally been port organizations and their partners, among which the tone is set by Ust-Luga Company, Russian Railways, Transmashholding, Murmansk Sea Trade Port, Morstroytechnology, etc.
The crews of yachts for three quarters are made up of non-professional yachtsmen – employees of companies and organizations participating in the Cup. Races take place both on coastal distances and on the high seas. Despite its amateur status, the Ust-Luga Cup has long and rightfully earned the respect of sailing experts and experts. The format of the competition and the route offered to yachtsmen, the level of organization and refereeing of races, the intensity of wrestling and the skill of the participants comply with the most demanding requirements for international sailing regattas.
For eight years, the Cup has come a long way from a regional industry tournament to an international sailing project. The regatta has become a large-scale initiative in the field of sailing, an effective tool for developing and maintaining corporate culture. The Ust-Luga Cup contributes to the integration of European maritime cities and ports interested in developing partnerships and business cooperation in the Baltic. Annual meetings at the regatta are eagerly awaited by its participants, whose number is growing with each new season.
In addition to the teams already mentioned, this Saturday at the start of the regatta in Tallinn will gather teams of the Marine Rescue Service (current cup winners), the Russian Register Association, FSUE Rosmorport, GT Morstroy, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, and the Estonian EESTI team 1520. The first races in the Tallinn Bay will be held on Sunday, June 9th.
The Ust-Luga Cup is held with the support of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and the All-Russian Sailing Federation.
The main sponsor of the competition is the shipbuilding company DAMEN SHIPYARDS GROUP
