In California completed California Offshore Race Week – quickly became a popular series of offshore races of different lengths. Note that the regatta was held for the fifth time.
In the current year to the list of activities carried out under racing added another – the longest – Cal500. That is 500 miles from San Francisco to Saint Diego. The organizers hope that in the future it will be open to all the world’s most famous Maxi trimarans. And while at the start there were three monster – Maserati Multi 70 skipper Giovanni Soldini, Argo Jason Carroll and the PowerPlay Peter Cunningham.
Favorite of this trio was, without doubt, the Maserati Multi 70. First, this is the fastest and, most importantly, a winged boat, then only the last major upgrade. Add to that an experienced skipper and an experienced Italian crew, which account for a lot of victories and achievements – and, for example, the world record on the distance from Hong Kong to London.
At first everything was in line with forecasts. Maserati has significantly ahead, but… was Followed by three consecutive collisions with some objects – in which the favorite went down the wheel to the right of the float.
The first finish line in San Diego crossed the PowerPlay. 500 miles this trimaran has overcome for 1 day, 5 hours, 2 minutes and 24 seconds. 1 hour, 37 minutes and 28 seconds behind Argo. Time Maserati Multi 70 is much worse is 1 day, 11 hours, 41 minutes and 52 seconds.
Soldini, however, optimistic. Primarily because of to accidents updated Maserati showed very good speed and was highly reliable. And from the collisions, you know, no one is immune.
