"Battleship": sure start
The excellent result was opened by the third stage of the 52SuperSeries team of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club “Battleship”. After two races, held on July 16 in Cascais (Portugal), the team of Vladimir Lyubomirov takes the third place. There are still four racing days ahead.
After calm races on Menorca in June, the fresh ocean breeze in Cascais pleased the fleet of seven teams (seven countries), which started the third stage of the 52SuperSeries of the current season. In the growing north wind, reaching 25 knots, the fleet conducted two dynamic races, culminating in very interesting results.
First, the winners of the 52SuperSeries 2018 Americans from Quantum Racing are finally “great again”. After an unsuccessful stage in Spain, the Ed Bird team recalled who the rivals were dealing with: the 2nd and 1st parishes. Moreover, in the second race the gap between the teams at the finish line was 240 m! The second, by the way, came "Battleship".
For the Russian team, the first day was also successful. After the "bronze" in the previous stage, the crew of Shime Fantela and Vladimir Lyubomirov is not going to slow down. With the 4th and 2nd parishes on the first day, the team divided the second line in the table with two rivals.
“The fight went for every meter: for example, in the first race we were bending around fifth, but managed to get around Phoenix and finish fourth,” says Vladimir Lyubomirov. “In the second race, again the fifth on the sign, then the fourth, but they took the second position only on the last leg – it was a really memorable flight on the plane!”
It is worth noting that rivals are not lagging behind, despite the titles and experience of leaders. According to the results of the first day, the winners of the previous stage – the Turkish Provezza, as well as the 2018 vice-champions and 2017 Italian Azzurra champions-2017 (which was twice the third on Tuesday – amazing stability) share the second line with the “Battleship”.
Accordingly, the intrigue embedded in the results promises an intense second day of racing in Cascais. In general, the competition of the third stage 52SuperSeries in Portugal will last until July 20.
