In the top three – significant changes
On June 1, in the Yacht Club of St. Petersburg at the All-Russian Regatta, the Optimist Association Cup finished the qualification.
The 3rd in the history of the Optimist Class Association Cup is the final stage in the selection of the strongest athletes for the Russian national teams representing our country at world and European championships.
A stable west wind with a force of 15-16 knots allowed us to conduct three races and complete the qualification.
Significant changes took place in the top three: Andrei Sotnikov (the Rautu Children's Sports Sailing Team) took the first place – he came 2nd, 1st and 19th. The asset Sotnikova five points after two days. The second is Artem Maksimkin (Vodnik, Dolgoprudny) – 6 points and two finishes on the 1st line, one – on the 5th. Vyacheslav Martus, another athlete from Raut, went up to third place with 7 points (2-4-1). The same points were gained by Kirill Shunenkov (6-2-3), the previous leader of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club Sailing Academy.
“In the last race before the start, the wind abruptly left to the left,” said the athlete to “Rautu” Vyacheslav Martus. “It was impossible to predict. In the first two races everything was more or less stable – you had to go closer to the shore and from there go to the sign. Personally, yesterday weather conditions are much more suitable for me – strong wind and waves. I love more extreme weather. My task is to come in the first seven in each next race. ”
Among the girls, Darya Savinova (FBU Favorit, Vyborg) rose to the first place, Ekaterina Yelistratova (CSKA, Moscow), Alisa Ivanovskaya (Rautu DSPC, St. Petersburg) was in the second place – still the third.
“The wind is very good the way I like it,” says Daria Savinova, leader of the Girls Association Cup. “It suits me much more. In such conditions, I can well be embarrassed. The first two races were good, and the last one was not very good. In the third race, the start was bad, then I could not get into the clear wind. In this weather, it is very important to start well, drive the boat correctly, and not worry. ”
Among the younger youths, Artem Cherpit from Sevastopol captured the lead, Nikolai Fastenko (FSB “Youth of Moscow”), Daniil Larchenkov (RSPU, St. Petersburg) – third.
Among the younger girls in the first place Dina Zhilkina (PC Vodnik, Dolgoprudny), Yuliya Naymushina (FSPKK, Krasnoyarsk) – the second, closes the top three Polina Morozova (MBU SCHOR number 4, Sochi).
Thus, the composition of the "golden" fleet was determined, on June 4 the final races and awards will be held.
The most titled yachtsman of the Russian period in the history of our country, the silver medalist of the 1996 Olympics George Shayduko, watched the races.
“I’ve been in sailing for 50 years, but Optimist remains the base class for training young sailors,” says George Shaiduko. “If the number of participants in the Association Cup grows every year, it means that the organizers are working in the right direction.”
