Great forgotten daredevil

As reported by the American website www.twincities.com in Saint Paul (Minnesota) on 80-m to year of life died Jerry Spies.

This news of particular interest not caused even in sailing circles. Well, he died… Which, actually, is surprising: in the late seventies – early eighties of the last century Spies were sailing celebrity in the world.

In 1979, on a makeshift boat he Yankee Girl solo across the Atlantic, and two years later, the Pacific ocean. America both times I met him as a national hero. But he was a hero!

Just imagine: in the length of his Yankee Girl was just 3.05 m. A maximum width of 1.67 meters. Tiny.

The grimace of fate: years have passed and the great daredevil Jerry Jaces forgotten. Even in his homeland. It happens.

Rest in peace.
