At the Yacht club of Saint-Petersburg Tuesday, June 4, ended the Cup of Association of class “Optimist”. According to the results of the competition were known not only the names of the winners, but also those riders who will represent our country at world and European Championships.

The Cup of Association of class “Optimist”, a very important regatta, which is the final stage of selection for the key international events of the season. Races bring together athletes from 9 to 14 years.

In the beginning of the end of the day, the wind reached 14 knots, but during the first race fell to 4. the Organizers held one race in the “gold”, “silver” and “bronze” fleet and decided to limit.

“I was counting on Monday to finish the competition in the gold fleet, but it was done only today. We have fully implemented the program, says the main judge of the Cup of Association Vadim Mechanics. – In addition, we spent 9 of the 10 races in the silver and bronze fleets. During the regatta the wind was different. Professional riders have a good race in any wind, and showed that today’s leaders. I am very pleased with how ready our children”.

Despite the fact that the last race was not very successful favorites at the top of the table not much has changed. Artem Maksimkin (PK Vodnik, Dolgoprudny) retained the first spot, Andrey Sotnikov (Children’s sports sailing team, “Rout”) was the second, and Daniel Pepper (“the Rout”) the third.

“The conditions for the regatta were very good – the wind was stable, – says the winner of the Cup of the Association Artem Maksimkin. – Nothing extraordinary during the whole race did not happen. In strong wind I’m not very good at it to chase, but due to the fact that the opponents gave me a chance, I might have to play the distance, therefore, stably passed all race. Many times I have been in St. Petersburg and represented the conditions of this area. For me it was easy to readjust. I have qualified for the world Cup. The primary goal for me is getting into the gold fleet at the world championship”.

Among girls the first place took off Arina Bratchenko (Taganrog, GBU RO of sshor of No. 3). In a bitter struggle she beat Alice in Ivanovo (“the Rout”), became the second. Third place went to Ekaterina Elistratova (CSKA Moscow).

“The main competitor for me is myself. This fight I lost, says the silver medalist Alice Ivanovo. – In fact, I always believed that it is possible to fight along with the guys. In many countries there is no separate competition for girls. I believe that is as it should be. Standings for girls is just a bonus. I am pleased that overtook a lot of guys and almost all girls. This is my last year in “the Optimist”. I’m not going to retire from sailing. I want to try myself in different classes of yachts and decide what suits me more”.

After the Cup of the Association for coaching meeting were defined the teams which will represent our country at the Championships of Europe and world.

The world championship will go Artem Maksimkin and Ivan Zhilkin (both Vodnik), Danila Ivanov and Maxim Bondar (both – “Krestovsky island) and Fedor Krivobokov (“Friendship”).

The European championship will represent our country Andrey Sotnikov, Daniel Pepper, Vyacheslav Marcus (all – “the Rout”), Kirill Shurenkov (Academy sailing), Arina Bratchenko (“of sshor of No. 3), Darya Savinova (“Favorite”) and Maria Struk (Vodnik).

Among the best Junior riders – Artem Carpita from Sevastopol. Second place went to Daniel Larchenkov (“the Rout”). Third place went to Nicholas Fastenko (GBU FSO “Youth of Moscow).

Among the younger girls without changes: in the first place Dean Zhilkina (PK Vodnik, Dolgoprudny), Julia Naymushin (RO FSPCC, Krasnoyarsk) – the second, the third Polina Morozova (MBU of sshor of No. 4, Sochi).

The last Cup of the Association was a record number of participants. In a regatta took part 224 riders from all over the country, including Khabarovsk, Sakhalin oblast and Vladivostok.

“I am very pleased with how the regatta – the President of the Association of the class “Optimist” Vladimir Liubomirov. – Most importantly – the number of participants. Once again we set a new record. It’s really nice that you guys appreciate this regatta, come and fight. More importantly, increasing the overall level of sports. A few years ago we could not imagine that so many athletes can perform at such a high level. Selection on superiority of the world and Europe was competitive. For this reason we have undertaken these regatta”.

“Event management is not only the race itself, but also a variety of coastal and leisure activities, availability of food for athletes – continues the chief judge of competitions Vadim Mechanics. – This complete set of pleasures as in the Yacht club of Saint-Petersburg, Russian nowhere. This is the only place that welcomes and organizes events. Ice cream, Souvenirs, food, games, meeting with George Shaiduko – all this was accompanied by the Cup of the Association”.

As part of the regatta at the Yacht club of Saint Petersburg hosted a meeting of the all-Russian Association “Optimist” class, where the quorum was also President of the Association was elected Vladimir Liubomirov.
