Can Alan set the record?
Swiss Alan Raur set out to improve the record of crossing the Atlantic – from New York to Cape Lizard (the southernmost point of the island of Great Britain) on an IMOCA Open 60 class yacht. And it's close to success!
Alan is 26 years old, but he already has a lot of long-distance solo races. So, in 2016, he started in the Vendée Globe – and eventually took the 12th place. In Route du Rhum-2018 finished seventh.
All this, of course, considerable achievements, but, let's say, of the second plan. And now Raur set out to be in the focus of attention of sailing publications. As you already know, he is trying to set a new record for crossing the Atlantic on an IMOCA Open 60.
So far, the achievement belongs to the Frenchman Mark Guillemo, who in 2013 safran overcame the distance from New York to Cape Lizard in 8 days, 5 hours, 20 minutes and 20 seconds. So, it is quite likely that Raoura and his La Fabrique, which are already six days on the way to the finish line, they have less than six hundred nautical miles left, will improve this achievement. In any case, today at 9 am Moscow time (there is no later data), the Swiss was ahead of his virtual rival by 50.8 miles. Good luck!
