Baikal is calling!
In early August 2020, the fourth Baikal Sailing Week 2020 international sailing regatta will be held on Lake Baikal.
It is noteworthy that in this unique water area of Russia it is the only regatta in which everyone can take part.
The main goal of the organizers is to make Lake Baikal accessible to yachting enthusiasts and give them the opportunity to get acquainted with the most picturesque and iconic places of this great lake.
This year, Baikal Sailing Week will take place along a new route, conceived as an expedition along the Malomor coast. From the village of Sakhyurta, located in the Olkhon Gate Strait, the yachts will sail along the west coast of Olkhon, cross the northern part of the Small Sea (the Baikal part between the coastline and the island of Olkhon) and return back to the village of Sakhyurt along the mainland of the lake.
In size, the Small Sea is about 70 km long and 5 to 16 km wide. This is an excellent water area for racing with a dozen islands and beautiful bays, where the main recreation areas of the west coast are located.
The program includes visits to Buryat shrines: Cape Burkhan and the Stupa of the Enlightenment, a free day in the "capital" of Olkhon – the famous village of Khuzhir, familiarity with the national cuisine and traditions of the Baikal region.
For three years, the Baikal Sailing Week has already gathered more than 150 participants from Russia, Tajikistan, Belarus, Germany, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, the USA. No one was indifferent to the beauties of Lake Baikal and the drive of sailing races!
