Coast guard Florida called off the search for 73-year-old Jim Slauson, who disappeared while participating in the regatta 2020 Water Tribe Everglades Challenge.
The first that was something wrong, March 9, noticed the son of a sailor: the tracker showed that the boat his father moving to this one, like others, almost due South along the West coast of Florida, was sharply away to the South-West. While the phone calls Slauson, Sr. did not answer, and then stopped and the emergency beacon on his life jacket.
What happened is a mystery. The coast guard soon found the boat 73-year-old yachtsman, but he himself was not there. Over the past few days has been surveyed waters area of nearly 10 thousand square nautical miles – but all to no avail. After that it was decided to stop search operation.
The Slauson, a specialist in the field of information technology, a few years ago he retired because he wanted, as he wrote in his diary, “to realize the long dream – to sail long distances and see the far country.”
Who could have imagined that it would end?..
