Late last evening a 40-metre Maxi-trimaran Spindrift 2 running 45-year-old skipper Yann Guichard went from the lighthouse créac’h on the island of Wesson round the world race with a length of 21600 nautical miles.
The purpose of Guichard and his crew, as we mentioned, is to win the Trophy Jules Verne (Jules Verne Trophy). Recall that from 2017 the record of the round the world race belongs to Guyana Francis and his team, which Maxi-catamaran IDEC SPORT has covered the distance in 40 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds.
Behind the first 13 hours of the race. During this time, Spindrift 2 was 224 miles with an average speed of 18 knots. In this segment he loses the schedule of IDEC SPORT Guyana (the tracker is trimarans red) is 72 miles.
But, of course, this is nothing says. Most importantly, the race began!
P. S. Recall that the team already tried to take possession of the trophy, and a few times. The last attempt failed on 1 February this year, when 1,200 nautical miles from Cape Luwin in the southern ocean, Spindrift 2 has damaged the right wheel. All 16 days that the trimaran was in transit, it is significantly ahead of the record schedule Guiana.
