According to the website http://www.parusniy-sport.org in Naples finished the final programme of sailing 30-rd world Universiade. The final consisted of 4 races, and also took into account the individual points place in qualifying.

The race took place directly on the seafront, next to the fortress (to the East) – so that the audience and the TV could watch the struggle on the water.

As a warm-up was conducted among small final teams not qualified to the final. It confirmed his ninth place the crew from Switzerland. The final competition began at a steady West wind with a speed of 10-13 knots.

All, as already mentioned, was held on 4th medal race. Each of them was very dynamic, with change leaders and in a very close contest. Quick full courses, dense diffraction, falsestart, a penalty on the part of judges – all this kept the intrigue to the finish. In this situation, the strongest of all showed his almost perfect score (1-1-2-1) crew from Finland Oskari steering Mohanram (Oskari Muhonen), a racer in a class “Finn” (Oscar – winner “Silver Cup”-2017). Second place also confidently won the crew from Austria (parishes 2-4-1-3) with steering Sarnagan Stefan (Stefan SCHARNAGL) in the past – strong driver of the world level in the 470 class. The third was the crew 2 from Singapore (steering Jillian Lee (Jillian LEE).

The Russian crew in the final races showed good fight, were the exits at the first sign of the Troika, but the team simply lacked some luck, somewhere harmony and the experience of walking on such yacht, and somewhere – and the same level of racing experience in Olympic classes, as experienced opponents, which ultimately failed to win a medal, but still, the guys managed to keep 6th place. Behind in the final was quite strong teams of Germany and Japan that in the last days of qualification at times also gave good winning bids.

In General, assessing the performance of the Russian team, we can say that under those conditions the training and support of student sailing, which exist in our country, 6th place out of 16 is a very good result. In such a complex struggle, the exit of children in the final at the world University games in the future fight on par with skilled players and having the experience of victories in international youth regattas in Olimpiyskiy classes, it’s worth it. Of course, it was difficult to fight for the gold and silver medals, but our crew showed that the fight for the bronze would have been very real, whether the guys have a little more harmony and the experience of walking on these boats. Steering team Dmitry Tretyakov has shown itself to be very stable from the psychological side, the crew always fought to the last centimeter, even in the most difficult situations when it was possible to give up, and this helped to achieve good parishes and to snatch victory from opponents in the last moment.

Congratulations to our boys with a decent result!

With regard to derived from experience of these competitions is obvious that the success greatly depends on how it goes in the base of the tail feathers sortboth classes: in the first place is a class “Finn”, then “470”. Here lays the basic tactical, strategic and technical skills, which later help you quickly navigate to other classes. The second is attention to the harmony of the crew. Each of the ready for the start of the teams training camps, the training that allowed the steering to fully show their skills on the course.

Summing up the results of participation of our team in the Universiade, it is important to note that it is important not only athletic performance, but that succeeded in establishing close contacts with the sailing teams and student activists from other countries. Managed to share and collect experiences from other countries on what classes and in what format competitions among the students with the delegates of the FISU World Sailing and was able to discuss a common ideology and strategy of development of students ‘ sails, the General format of international tournaments. So, the basic idea has become the development direction of fleet racing on keel boats with mixed crews of 4 people. This key will be student world Championships. With the teams we agreed to exchange information on ongoing regattas. We actively recruit at the regatta in France, Korea, and Singapore. We are waiting for next year at the student world championship in Italy. There is interest to come to us. Overall, the results are significant and interesting for the further development of student sailing in our country and the strengthening of international relations.

Hopefully, this will give a large positive impulse to the development of student sailing in our country.
