The opening ceremony of the world championship in sailing in the discipline "match racing" will be held on August 12 at 19.00. Crews of yachtsmen from 12 countries — Australia, the USA, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Great Britain, Denmark, France, Poland, Italy, New Zealand, Japan and Russia — will enter the platform in front of the piers of the Provincial Yacht Club Komatek.
The Chelyabinsk yachtsman team with skipper Mark Abdrakipov won the World Championship ticket.
The helmsman from New Zealand Nick Egnot-Johnson is the most famous of the list of yachtsmen participating in the regatta in Yekaterinburg, he takes 11th place in the world ranking of match racing skippers.
Championship judges from Argentina, France, Germany, Spain, Finland, India and Russia. The chairman of the racing commission is a Russian judge, and the technical delegate of World Sailing is from Portugal.
The organizing committee of the world championship is headed by vice-governor Pavel Krekov, the deputies are the regional minister of physical culture and sports Leonid Rapoport and the head of Yekaterinburg Alexander Vysokinsky. The organizing committee includes representatives of regional authorities, the Ministry of Emergencies, the All-Russian Federation of Sailing, the Sverdlovsk Federation of Sailing and the Provincial Yacht Club Komatek.
The venue of the World Championship in match racing is Yekaterinburg, Verkh-Isetskiy pond, the provincial yacht club Komatek, Kirova street 40b.
