      Cup stays in St. Petersburg!
The Marblehead Trophy 2019 sailing regatta among Dragon yachts has been completed. The main prize of the competition – the challenge silver cup – the whole of the next year will be kept in St. Petersburg. This was made possible thanks to the victory of Dmitry Samokhin, whose crew held on Tuesday three excellent races.

Cup stays in St. Petersburg!

Already in the first of them, the team from the Hercules Yacht Port took a step up in the standings to its highest level, leaving the Portuguese and Pedro Andrade as a great performer in St. Petersburg and his eternal rival friends from the team of Anatoly Loginov. But the current holder of the Cup significantly complicated his position with the results of the race – the fourth place at the finish line threw him from the leading position to the second place, which also now had to be shared with Andrade. True, both pursuers were separated from Samokhin by just one point.

The fourth race had to decide if not everything, then a lot. The starting segment was better for Loginov, who for a long time kept himself in the lead, having a significant advantage over his closest rivals. With a lag, but still after him, Samokhin held the position. But in Andrade, the start of the race was not set, and the Portuguese yachtsman completed the first loop, being only 5-6 places.

However, in the second part of the distance, he began to gradually regain position after position and, having done a great tack of power, went to the top mark as the leader. Now Loginov had to pursue his rival. Samokhin also found himself in a difficult situation, who, in addition to the two teams mentioned above, was also ahead of Italian riders: from a tournament point of view, this did not suit the Russians.

The situation was resolved at the finish: Pedro Andrade came first and scored 8 points, the second was Anatoly Loginov (9 points), the third place was nevertheless pulled out by the team of Dmitry Samokhin, equaling on points with the Portuguese. According to additional indicators, the advantage is Russian yachtsmen. However, at that time it was not so important, because race committee decided to hold another, fifth race. At 16.34 the start was given. There was still time for the race – just enough wind!

Enough, but – only on one loop. The fifth race launched the mechanism of “emissions”, and thanks to this, someone as a result managed to slightly improve their standings. Victory in the final race was won by the team of Gerard Blanca (FRA 409), who eventually completed the regatta in fourth place. However, the trophy itself went to Dmitry Samokhin and his crew, who finished second, but this was enough to keep on the first line of the standings. Pedro Andrade – in second place, Anatoly Loginov – in third.

Bronze medalist of the regatta Anatoly Loginov (RUS 27):

– Because of the third place I was upset, but not much. There are a lot of competitions. Here the competition was serious. Everything is constantly changing. Conditions are not entirely predictable, and this is good. The results are almost the same. Nobody had a clear advantage, and everyone decided one or two points. Do we already think about the championship of Russia? We think we will try!

Silver medalist Regatta Pedro Andrade (POR 84):

– The day today was very unusual, the weather conditions changed very often, which was quite a difficult test for the athletes. The races were interesting because, in fact, no one had an advantage, and everyone started from scratch. For us, the day did not start too well, but still we tried to stay in the game.

The Annapurna and RocknRolla boats are some of the best in the world. It is always hard to compete with them. Very good athletes with great experience, but I can not but note the other teams, whose level is also quite high. And in general in Russia the skill of athletes is impressive.

Why could not win? For us, the starts were not very good, but I think that we had no technical errors. The wind changed very often, it was hard to predict its direction. Anatolia was a little unlucky, and he made a few mistakes. That is what did not give him the opportunity to take first place. Do I want to take revenge? Of course! And the day after tomorrow I will come back for a victory!

Regatta winner Dmitry Samokhin (RUS 76):

– Today was a nervous day. Three races are a lot. In the first we did it all, and we came leaders. In the second race of the day, the correct decision was made to cancel it. For example, we went first with a stock, then the last, also with a stock. In general, there were many permutations, the wind was completely non-racing. And the last race was dramatic. We were fifth or sixth after rounding the top mark, although at first we looked better. And everything decided the full course: we managed to get into second place. It was decided to go in the middle of the distance, and it worked. The wind was dying, so the distance was reduced, it was enough for us to win.

– Full courses on this regatta have solved a lot …

– Yes. And another thing is that in this fleet there are five or six boats on a better course than the others. And only they had real chances to win and come to winners. There were no layers between the leaders, and every point is a big gap. Every mistake, that on the full course, that on tacking, could become decisive.

– You often have to chase with foreign riders in their waters. What was it like here?

– They are quite experienced guys who won competitions of various levels. In various areas, including strangers. There are some very specific conditions, for example, complex currents, and then local riders have a serious advantage. And here we have average conditions. You just have to race well. It was clear that the same Pedro always made the right choice, going in the right direction. There was no situation where he would not know where to go.

– Are you satisfied with the victory?

– Of course. It is very nice to win a trophy that is associated with such a long history. And it is very nice to leave him in St. Petersburg next year. We hope that the new marina of the Hercules Yacht Port will be ready by the time of the regatta.

Winners and laureates of the regatta:
1st place – Dmitry Samokhin (RUS 76, Hercules Yacht Port) – 7 points
2nd place – Pedro Andrade (POR 84, Yacht Club Nautico de Tavira) – 8
3rd place – Anatoly Loginov (RUS 27, Yacht Club of St. Petersburg) – 9
4 place – Gerard Blanc (FRA 409, Yacht club de Cannes) – 16

Among the surprises is a sponsored lottery, excursions in St. Petersburg, a traditional dinner from the host organization. “We hope that the days spent in our city will long remain in your memory!”

Fears of the judges regarding the weather conditions (the forecast promised calm weather) by the time of the first start were dispelled by a completely stable westerly wind blowing at a speed of 7-8 knots. The first race of the regatta lasted just over an hour. It is interesting to note that all the teams representing foreign yacht clubs, these sixty minutes were in the top ten. True, they did not succeed in waving to the leading position – Anatoly Loginov confidently headed from the start to the finish. Teams from Portugal, Great Britain, as well as Dmitry Samokhin representing the yacht port “Hercules”, succeeding each other, chased the crew of the cup winners. However, they did not succeed in this struggle.

The second race of the day confirmed the well-known truth that defending the cup to its owners is not an easy task. The contenders for the historic trophy have enough desire, strength and skills to fight hard for an honorary prize. Portuguese Pedro Andrade was the first on the top sign and on the gate, and only in the last full course he lost the fight to Anatoly Loginov and Dmitry Samokhin. The teams of Gerard Blanc and Dmitry Bondarenko finished closely behind the leaders. This time Samokhin celebrated his victory, who scored 4 points for the day. One point less for Loginov, one more point for Portuguese riders.

Pedro Andrade (Portugal):

– In the first race, we tried to hold on to Anatoly Loginov and at some point even came close to get ahead of him, but … We started the second race quite well, successfully started, were in the lead on the first loop, but then the wind played bad with us a joke, and by the time we reached the top mark for the second time, our rivals had already caught up with us. And here on the rounding we made the biggest mistake in this race, we made an extra turn instead of going to the finish line immediately. I think the reason for this was the loss of concentration – our fatigue, caused by the fact that we arrived late on the eve, and had to prepare the boat for the races early in the morning, had an effect. As a result, they lost two places to their closest rivals.

The Cup stays in Petersburg! https://yacht-express.net/the-cup-stays-in-petersburg/ https://yacht-express.net/the-cup-stays-in-petersburg/#respond Wed, 24 Jul 2019 08:00:26 +0000 https://yacht-express.net/the-cup-stays-in-petersburg/ Read more]]> Regatta Marblehead Trophy 2019 among the yachts of a class “Dragon” is completed. The main prize of competitions – a rolling silver Cup – the next year will be kept in Saint-Petersburg. This was made possible thanks to the victory of Dmitry Samokhin, whose crew spent Tuesday three excellent races.

In the first of them is the team from the Yacht port “Hercules” made a move up the standings at its highest level, leaving astern and well speaker in St. Petersburg Portuguese Pedro Andrade, and their age-old friends-contenders from the team of Anatoly Loginov. But the current holder of the Cup with the outcome of this race has greatly complicated his position to fourth place at the finish dropped him from the leading position to second place, which also now had to share with Andrade. However, from Samokhina both pursuers separated by only one point.

The fourth race was supposed to solve if not everything, much. The starting period is better managed Loginov, who has long kept in the lead, having a significant advantage over their closest rivals. Behind, but still behind him kept the position and Samokhin. But Andrade beginning of the race was asked, and Portuguese sailor first loop has completed, while only 5-6 places.

However, the second part of the race he gradually began to win back the positions one by one and very powerful after tacking, the upper sign left as a leader. Now Loginov had to chase his opponent. In a difficult situation was and Samokhin, which, in addition to these two teams, ahead of another Italian riders from the tournament point of view, it is the Russians were not satisfied.

The situation was resolved already at the finish line: Pedro Andrade came first and scored 8 points, the second and left Anatoly Loginov (9 points), third place got the team of Dmitry Samokhin, having caught up on points with the Portuguese. Additional indicators the advantage of the Russian sailors. But at that time it was not so important, because the race Committee decided to hold another, the fifth race. At 16.34 was launched. Time for the race was just to have enough wind!

Enough, but only one loop. The fifth race started the mechanism of “emissions”, and thus someone in the result did little to improve their standings. The victory in the final race was won by the team of gérard Blanca (FRA 409), which eventually finished the regatta in fourth place. However, the trophy went to Dmitry Samohin and his crew, who finished second, but it was enough to hold on to first place in the tournament table. Pedro Andrade – in the second place, Anatoly Loginov third.

The bronze prize-winner of the regatta Anatoly Loginov (RUS 27):

– For the third place was upset, but not much. A lot of the competition. Here, the competition was serious. Everything is constantly changing. Conditions are not entirely predictable, and that’s good. The results are almost all the same. A clear advantage nobody had, and all decided by one or two points. Do we care about the Russian League? I think we will try!

Silver medal winner of the regatta Pedro Andrade (POR 84):

The day today was a very unusual weather conditions are very often changed, which was quite an ordeal for the athletes. The race was interesting because, in fact, no one had benefits, and everything starts as if from scratch. For us the day started not too good, but still we tried to stay in the game.

Boats Annapurna and RocknRolla among the best in the world. It is always hard to compete with them. Very good athletes with great experience, but we cannot fail to mention the rest of the team, which is also quite high. And generally in Russia the skill of the athletes is impressive.

Why couldn’t you win? For us, the starts were not very good, but I think that technical errors we had. The wind changed very often, it was hard to predict its direction. Anatoly was a bit unlucky, and he made a few mistakes. This is what gave him the opportunity to take first place. If I want to take revenge? Of course! And the day after tomorrow will come back for the win!

The winner of the regatta Dmitry Samokhin (RUS 76):

Today was a nervous day. Three races is a lot. At first we did it and we came leaders. In the second race of the day was the decision on its abolition. We, for example, was first a stock, the latter, also with the stock. In General, there were many permutations, the wind was absolutely not a race. And the last race was dramatic. We were fifth or sixth after rounding the top mark, although the first looked better. And all agreed a full course: we managed to get second place. Decided to go for the middle of the race, and it worked. The wind died, so the distance was reduced, that was enough for the victory.

– Full courses for the regatta much to decide…

Yes. And the fact that this fleet five or six boats on a better course than others. And only they had a real chance to win and come in the winners. Wasn’t interlayer between the leaders, and every point is a big gap. Every mistake, which is full aware that the running downwind, could be decisive.

– You often have to chase foreign drivers in their area. What they did here?

They are quite experienced guys who have won competitions of different levels. In various areas, including the unfamiliar. There are really quite specific conditions, e.g., complex currents, and then the local racers have a big advantage. And conditions average. You just have to chase. It was evident that the same Pedro always made the right choices, going in the right direction. It was not a situation where he would not know where to go.

– Are you satisfied with the victory?

– Of course. Very nice to win a trophy that is associated with such a long history. And very nice to leave him in St. Petersburg next year. I hope that the new Marina Yacht port “Hercules” by the time the regatta will be already ready.

The winner of the regatta:
1 place – Dmitry Samokhin (RUS 76, the Yacht port “Hercules”) – 7 points
2nd place – Pedro Andrade (POR 84, Yacht Club Nautico de Tavira) – 8
3 place – Anatoly Loginov (RUS 27, the Yacht club of Saint-Petersburg) – 9
4th place – Gerard Blanc (FRA 409, Yacht club de Cannes) – 16
5 place – Dmitry Bondarenko (GBR 408, Royal Ocean Racing Club) – 17

Polish yacht stuck in Petersburg because of the heat
The forty-foot four-foot Polish yacht Lady Dana, going up Petersburg along the Neva River, faced an unexpected obstacle today – could not pass the Ladoga bridge on the Cola highway, which was supposed to be diluted for her this afternoon, as scheduled ..

Lady Dana is well known in Petersburg and the Northern Sea Route.

The fact is that the layout of the bridge (and the height of the mast at the yacht is 21.5 meters, which allows it to pass only under diluted bridges) is allowed by the rules only when the air temperature is not higher than +25 degrees Celsius. Today in St. Petersburg, the air warmed up much stronger. Therefore, the bridge layout for our Polish guests was postponed until tomorrow: from 10:00 to 10:45 in the morning, the movement of cars would stop and make a bridge for the Polish guests.

Lady Dana is well-known in St. Petersburg and in the north of our country, she already went to the Arctic Around the World Route, and went down the Neva last fall.
