St. Petersburg Sailing Championship

The St. Petersburg Sailing Championship is one of the oldest yachting competitions in the Northern capital; for the first time, the championship was held before the Second World War. Today this is the main start of the season in the city on the Neva, in which anyone can take part. Successful performance at the regatta allows you to get a discharge.

Due to its size, the championship is a grand sailing spectacle, giving the most complete picture of professional and amateur yachting in the city. More than 70 vessels enter the water every year to compete for the champion title, and the total number of participants exceeds 400 people. Most of the yacht classes represented in St. Petersburg are in the regatta. Cruising yachts, keel racing monotypes and sailing boards are involved here. Among them: the absolute group (yachts measured according to ORC), “L-6”, “Quarterton”, yachts of the type “Cetus” and “Konrad-44”, “Carter-30”, “Santer-760”, “Minitonnik” , "Dragon", "Platu-25", "SB20", sailing dinghies and others.

The championship of St. Petersburg among keel boats is held in parallel with the prizes of the newspaper "Evening Petersburg" – "Cup of the Big Neva". This is a prestigious historical regatta, which has been held since 1948. The competition is dedicated to the memory of Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, sports journalist of the newspaper Valentin Semenov. The main prize is a challenge trophy made in 1947 by masters of the Leningrad Porcelain Factory named after M.V. Lomonosov.

“The victory at the St. Petersburg Sailing Championship has a special status. Along with amateurs, the most famous athletes, participants in the Olympic Games and winners of international competitions traditionally take part in the race. Over the long history of the regatta, often truly outstanding sailors became their champions. In addition, this is a very representative event. Therefore, many want to leave their name in the galaxy of winners of the race and the history of sailing. We wish good luck to all participants, let the most worthy win! ”Commented Sergey Alekseev, President of the St. Petersburg Sailing Union, Chairman of the Presidium of the All-Russian Sailing Federation.
