"Yachtsman of the year of St. Petersburg": laureates announced
In the Northern capital, the awarding ceremony of the winners of the annual Sailing Service Merit Award “Yachtsman of the Year of St. Petersburg 2019” took place. The organizers of the award are the St. Petersburg Sailing Union and the Yacht Club of St. Petersburg.
Winners of the Prize “Yachtsman of the Year St. Petersburg 2019” were determined in 11 nominations.
In the nomination "Discovery of the Year" won Ulyana Vonogova (class: Techno, Academy of Sailing). This year, Ulyana finished second in the Championship of St. Petersburg, fourth in the Championship of Russia, and then triumphantly performed at the World Championship in the Techno class, winning one of the races and taking the final 17th place. This year, the duo won the following awards in their class: 1st place in the Cup of Russia, 1st place of the 9th Summer Spartakiad of Russia, 2nd place of the Russian Championship, 6th place in the European Championships, 1 place in the Sochi Regatta, which became the qualifying stage for the World Cup.
The short list of the “Coach of the Year” nomination includes Alexey Alexandrovich Chibizov and Ivan Sergeevich Petrov. The greatest number of votes was received by Alexey Chibizov (class: Formula kite, Krestovsky Island sailing school). Alexei is the trainer of the strongest athletes in Russia: Valeria Garashchenko (silver of the World Championship U19, gold of the European Championship and two silver of the European Championship) and Denis Taradin (takes first place in the world ranking).
The authors of the three best sailing photos of the year were Andrei Sheremetyev, Elena Razina, Anton Makhanov. Most votes were cast for the work of Andrei Sheremetev.
The best long-distance sports trip was the long-term journey of Yuri Alexandrovich Sitnikov and the crew of the yacht Lady In Red. In 2011, the yacht began a long sports trip around Europe from St. Petersburg to Turkey. Between 2011 and 2019 More than 20,000 nautical miles have been covered in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The yacht visited 15 countries, visited Europe, Asia and Africa. This year, the yachtsman took part in one of the most extreme regattas in the world – the transatlantic single-race Mini-Transat La Boulangerie, finishing 11th in the Proto division.
