Continues record-breaking attempt of the famous French skipper Francis Guaiana and four members of his crew to install on the Maxi trimaran IDEC SPORT world record on the distance from Port-Louis in Mauritius to Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam (the distance of 4 thousand nautical miles).
As we reported, IDEC SPORT has to finish in Ho Chi Minh city 16 – 16-a-half days after launch. But it is – according to the plans. And how will actually, it’s not clear to anyone. Because trimaran is the way five day and during this time overcame 2685 miles (at 14.30 Moscow time). Twice in a row IDEC SPORT overcame a day of more than 730 miles!
So, to the finish line is just around the corner? Not at all. Because almost five days, the trimaran was keeping the course in Sundsy Strait between the Islands of Java and Sumatra, what would be the shortest route, and to Australia. Moreover, fell below the latitude of Cape Luin! That is, Guion Ko added to distance from Ho Chi Minh city at least 1500 miles! And all because of the fact that the crew chose to bypass the extensive area of high pressure.
And now, finally, IDEC SPORT turned North-East. As a result, in the last 24 hours total travel distance: 214 miles (average speed of 8.9 knots). But then, according to meteorologists, weather conditions will be 63-year-old Guyana and his team (in its composition, by the way, and Guion-Junior – Corentin) is very favorable.
