Cheeky, rebellious, defiant
So the name Defiant is translated from English – last Saturday it received the AC75 boat, built by one of the two American contenders for the Cup of America – the New York American Magic team.
At the presentation of the official launching held by New Yorkers at their base in Newport (Rhode Island), several hundred guests (who were first informed that 76 thousand man-hours were spent on the design and construction of the yacht) had an excellent opportunity consider Defiant from all sides. General opinion: apparently this car has little in common with its New Zealand rival, called Te Aihe ("Dolphin").
They built an American boat at the famous shipyard in Bristol (also Rhode Island), on which ships for the America Cup have been built since the 90s of the XIX century – the first was Vigilant, which won in 1893.
Last week, before the presentation, the first American Magic yacht (although it would probably be more correct to call it a car) passed the first tests, quickly rose on hydrofoils, quickly gained momentum and turned briskly – though, during one of the turns, everything still pecked her nose.
In any case, Defiant certainly makes a big impression. There is something to see.
