These competitions are organized by the International Olympic Committee and have a high status, ”said coach Alexei Chibizov. – Three years ago we knew about them and began to prepare to represent Russia in the discipline of Formula Kite. Only athletes who qualified on the basis of the international rating take part in the competition, and Russian athletes Denis Taradin (Krestovsky Ostrov) and Elena Kalinina (Academy of Sailing) successfully selected there.

The format of the event is determined by the International Olympic Committee, there is a program, everything is clearly scheduled and everyone follows the established schedule. A good test for kite on the eve of the upcoming Olympics 2024, where it is included!

Now about the races. In Qatar, in the Persian Gulf, we have performed before, but this was usually in November. Now here the air temperature is 33-36, and the water is at least 32 degrees. Already in training, it became clear that the body simply does not have time to cool! Very hot! The feeling that you are doing a kite in the steam room!

The wind is a breeze. But it is very unstable and constantly with approaches up to 30 degrees. There is a certain lottery. Kites in the men's fleet are 21 sizes, girls are mainly chasing 18-19.

According to the results of qualification, Denis got into the semifinals from the 10th position, Lena entered the semifinals in 3rd place. Today, the women's semi-finals are scheduled to start, and Lena has good chances to get into the finals and continue the fight!

The men's fleet starts are scheduled for the 16th, so Denis has a rest today and then a fight in the semifinals.

      "The water area is beautiful, the yacht club is even better!"
      On September 6, the opening ceremony of the Russian championship in the classes “Optimist”, “Cadet” and “Zoom 8” will be held in the Togliatti yacht club “Friendship”.

Last year, the Russian championship, also held in Togliatti, broke the record for the number of participants. In the class "Optimist" 309 athletes were declared, in the classes "Cadet" and "Zoom 8" – 45 and 54, respectively. It is expected that this year the record will again be broken.

“The championship of Russia in the Optimist class is the most important event of this season,” says Vladimir Lyubomirov, president of the Optimist Class Association. – The strongest athletes from all over Russia will take part in it. Every year the class is growing. Five years ago, we could not imagine that so many athletes would participate in all-Russian regattas. It is very important that the upcoming championship of Russia was held at a high level. As part of the championship, we plan to hold a coaching council and a meeting of the Presidium of the Optimist Association, discuss selection criteria, appoint a new executive director of the Association and solve a number of pressing issues ahead of the winter training season.

Yachtsmen from more than 40 cities of Russia will come to Togliatti. Competitions are held in the water area of ​​the Kuibyshev reservoir. In the classes "Optimist" and "Cadet" boys and girls aged 9 to 16 years old compete, in the class "Zoom 8" – juniors and juniors up to 20 years old.

“The water area is beautiful, the Druzhba yacht club is even better,” says Vadim Mekhanikov, chief judge of the regatta. – This is a yacht club of international level. We have few such clubs. As the trend of recent years shows, every year more and more athletes participate in the championship of Russia. Last year there were more than 300 Optimist boats. This year we expect more to come.

The organizers plan to hold 12 races – six qualifying and the same final. The race committee will give up to three starts per day.

The Russian Championship in Tolyatti is one of the stages in the selection of the strongest athletes for the national teams of Russia in the Optimist class for the 2020 World and European Championships.

Last year, St. Petersburg athletes – Danila Ivanov and Alexandra Lukoyanova (both Krestovsky Island) won the regatta. Now yachtsmen perform in pre-Olympic classes. At the end of last season, Danila transferred to the crew in the 29er class, and Alexander – on the Laser 4.7.

For many young athletes, the Russian championship in the Optimist, Cadet, and Zoom 8 classes may be the final before moving to the youth class.

This year, athletes from St. Petersburg also claim high places. At the last championship of St. Petersburg, the leading positions were occupied by racers from the Academy of Sailing and Rautu – Kirill Shunenkov, Nikita Chernykh and Daniil Perchik. Among the girls, Alisa Ivanovskaya, Marina Babkina and Yulia Naymushina performed best. In Togliatti, a serious fight will be imposed on them by local athletes, as well as racers from Moscow and the Moscow region.

      "The result is always important"
      The press service of the championship of Russia in the dragon yacht class, which ended today in St. Petersburg, worked at the highest level – thanks to the colleagues! Here is one of the materials they have prepared.

Before you – an interview with the famous yachtsman, skipper, navigator, sailing master, racer of international level, participant of three round-the-world races of Vladimir Kulinichenko. Actually, he has long been living in overseas St. Petersburg, but he spent the last few days in the city on the Neva River, speaking at the Russian Championship as part of the crew of Sergey Bakharev (RUS 84).

– Vladimir, you have such an extensive sailing biography. Transatlantic Racing, Around the World. What led to the "Dragons"?

– First, I really wanted to go back to where I started. And we all started in the Soviet Union. Russia, Ukraine – all this is close to us. Secondly, there was an opportunity to talk with old friends – with the same Sergey Borodinov, with the guys from the former Olympic team. There was no such opportunity before, and now Sergey Bakharev invited me into the crew. We train and race, including boating bigger than these: at the Bavaria Cup and so on.

– How high is the level of competition "dragons" compared with the years of your sports youth?

– We are now chasing a very high level. Here the first four boats of international rating take part in the races. We stand next to very strong racers, which raises the level of both regattas and the level of those who are in this company – they learn a lot. Even losing. For example, I am learning how to set up a boat, how to tactically fight. Here are very difficult wind conditions. Compared to what it was many years ago, there are a lot of houses set up, and from this there are constant winds. Now the rider needs much more patience than before.

– Did the “dragon” step far forward in terms of technical equipment?

– We are racing in the "classics", and our boat was made in the sixties. In some ways, it has now been improved, but the hull and the mast remain the same. Sails are more or less new, but not fresh. However, we try to compete. In one of the races, even one of the brands came first. And with Loginov we went near – his boat is very fast. Plus, the coaching staff helps, we have no such possibility. But chasing is still nice.

– Is there any envy of modern buildings?

– Absolutely not. I enjoy it from the "classics". I was chasing boats that were a hundred years old. In Cannes, Antibes, Saint-Tropez. I am very pleased that the old “classics” and other boats are being repaired at the shipyards in the Central Yacht Club. It is simply amazing how much love they have to do with it. People generally have to see the beauty in the sail. I was racing on the “flying keels” that really fly. Very interesting. But the classics can not be forgotten. This is our story. And in general, a tree is beautiful, warm. It is necessary to combine super-modern and classic boats. All the same, it's all a sail! All the same – hydrodynamics and aerodynamics, and everything is subject to the same laws. High speeds are no longer suitable for our age. The reaction is no longer the same …

– Maybe, as in skiing, divided into a ridge and a classic move?

– We, too, have different tests. In San Remo, in November there will be a big regatta in which the “classics” will start separately, and not in the general group, as we are now. If invited, we will definitely go. We are already considering this issue. Dates come up. I have this regatta wedged between two competitions.

– What will be the trip for you? Just plunge into the atmosphere of the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the "Dragon"?

– It will be necessary to attend the sports part. We are racers! Whatever you chase, even on a bath with a sail, it is still a sport: someone will be the first, someone will be the last. Therefore, the result is always important for us.

      "The main task is to win the World Cup!"
      The team of Igor Rytov, Russian Bogatyrs, began the new season with a victory in Maya at the second stage of the Winter Series in the class of yachts Melges 20. In fact, she managed a “double” – because she won the first stage of the series in December 2018.

We took a short blitz interview with the head of the Russian Bogatyrs Igor Rytov:

Yacht Russia: – How strong was the competition this time?

Igor Rytov: – The competition was very strong, the first ten of the world gathered, everyone is charged for a good result, all have good professional crews. Easy victory was not foreseen.

YR: – When was victory easier – in December or now?

I. R.: “It is never easy, the wind was weaker in December, so more tactical races were and therefore more nervous, but the current stage turned out to be physically more expensive, we had to hang a lot on long trenches.

YR: – What weather is perfect for your crew?

IR: “For us, the ideal weather is strong and stable, without strong shifters the wind, which was exactly what happened on this regatta on Saturday and Sunday: there was 16-20 knots.

YR: – What is your main task for this season?

I.R .: – The main task for the season is, of course, to win the world championship. I believe that we are now in good shape and can do it.

YR: – What do you think about the introduction of offshore racing at the Olympics in 2024?

IR: – Offshore races on the OI-2024, I think, will give the opportunity to try their hand at more age yachtsmen with good practice on keelboats.

      "The storm in the mist …"
      On the second day of the 1st grade regatta in the Dragon class – the Dragon Grand Prix de Cannes, which takes place in Cannes and is also the first stage of the European series this year, we managed to hold only one race.

Look at the pictures. Involuntarily recall the famous Pushkin's "Storm in the Darkness …". There was no snow whirlwind, but the wind turned over the water brutally, giving the teams a lot of trouble.

We can say that the wicked weather won against the Russian yachtsmen. The best result among them in the only race of the day showed Dmitry Samokhin's Rocknrolla: the team has the 9th parish, and now in the overall standings it has dropped from sixth position to the seventh (23 points).

The rest of the cases are worse: Annapurna Anatoly Loginov was the seventh – became the ninth (41 points), and the publisher of our magazine Vasily Senatorov (To be continued) made an unpleasant fall from the 9th line to the 18th – now he has 56 points. Immediately after him in the table, Igor Goyhberg (Zenith) – 57.

Victorflower Fogelson’s Sunflower is now at 34th position, and Mikhail Senatorov’s Integrity is at 47th.

As for the regatta leaders, the German Sinewave led the way, led by Thomas Muller (10 points), followed by another team from Germany – Marcus Brennecke's Cameleer (15) and Gordon Grant's British Louise Racing.

      "The first two races did not work"
      On Sunday, April 21, the final medal race of the 3rd stage of the World Sailing Cup took place in Genoa. Unfortunately, the Russians did not hit them.

We asked the athletes of the Sailing Academy, Jan Cech and Ivan Zotov, who became the 15th regatta, to sum up its results.

Jan Cech, the helmsman, class 49th:

“The regatta was marked by difficult weather conditions. Especially on the first day. All days of races the barrel was weak, there were no races for 2 days at all due to the absence of wind.

Our first 2 races did not work, but then we gained momentum day by day and by the end of the regatta rose quite high in the standings. The annoying “black flag” in the last race (we came 1st in it!) Did not allow us to stay in the top 10 and take part in the medal race.

Nevertheless, I am glad that I managed to confirm my level.

The main task was to drive as best as possible, but still the main starts ahead. I think we managed. The first two wards, even if one of them with the “wheel” is worthy for this fleet.

According to the plan, on the 3rd of May we will fly to the UK for a gathering, then we participate in the European Championship there.

“The regatta was difficult in the first place, psychologically. Probably for all riders and judges as well. The races were held with very light wind, a lot of time waiting for the wind on the shore and on the water

We did not succeed the first day, somehow everything did not develop then. But then luck was on our side and the remaining 7 races we passed on an excellent level. We are pleased that they competed on equal terms with the strongest crews of the class 49er.

Particularly pleased with the race in the golden fleet, where the struggle is even denser, and the price of any mistake is very high. We even won the last race with an advantage, but, unfortunately, we were disqualified for a false start in this particular race. What threw us from the 6th position to the 15th. Well, it happens. In any case, satisfied with the regatta and their results.
