      “Three times hit the net”
Before the end of the race, over time, the 63-year-old French skipper Francis Jouillon and the four members of his team have only a few days or even hours left. Recall that the goal of Zhuillon and Co. is to set the IDEC SPORT max trimaran world record at a distance from the town of Port Louis on the island of Mauritius to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. 4000 nautical miles.

“Three times hit the net”

Now, at 12:00 Moscow time on Monday, 520 miles remain for the IDEC SPORT team to finish in Ho Chi Minh City. It seems to be – not at all a lot, but the catch is that over the past two days they managed to overcome only (do not believe it!) 286 miles! This is due, firstly, to calm weather and the oncoming stream, and secondly, when passing the island of Kalimantan, trimaran more than a hundred times (!) Turned out to be fishing huts on stilts.

“Sunday night gave us a lot of trouble,” Jouillon wrote in his diary. – No one closed his eyes. At some point, we finally caught at least some wind, but could not increase speed – we were afraid to come across a hut or get into fishing nets. Three times still hit. Fortunately, it was not necessary to dive: they freed themselves from the nets pretty quickly. ”

"Battleship" opens 44Cup Palma in the top three
In the waters of Palma de Mallorca on November 15, one day late, the races of the final stage of 44Cup of the 2019 season started. In light, unstable winds, the fleet held three races, as a result of which the crew of the Saint-Petersburg Yacht Club “Battleship” shared the third line with the Swedish Artemis Racing.

"Battleship" opens 44Cup Palma in the top three

The previous day, with a wind of up to 40 knots, the 44Cup Palma competition area was captured by light, unstable winds and chaotic waves. Having already lost one race day, the competition committee was determined to start the first race of the stage, no matter what the cost. After long hours of setting the distance, the first start signal sounded, albeit with a great delay.

The water here is familiar to all the tactics of the nine crews participating in 44Cup Palma, but the November weather turned out to be more than a complicated mystery even for experienced crews. The early leader of the day was Charisma by Nico Puns, but in the final race, the Dutchman skipped ahead of the French Aleph and finished second.

In the most difficult conditions, “Battleship” had a great two races and confidently took the third line. A bad start in the third race of the day brought the seventh result, therefore, the place in the top three had to be shared with veterans of the class, the Swedish Artemis Racing.

On the contrary, for three-time world champions, the team of “Nick” Vladimir Prosikhin, the day was not set. Two parishes in the tail of the fleet threw the team to the end of the standings. The second arrival in the third race helped to rectify the situation, and Nika has a hard fight for medals ahead of the season. In this case, little consolation is the fact that all Prosikhin's rivals in this fight also spent an unsuccessful day and share the bottom lines of the table.

For the Tavatuy team of Pavel Kuznetsov, the opening of the stage also did not bring anything good. Newcomers to the class could not cope with the whirring wind, and as a result – the last two arrivals, which were able to correct the third finish at the end of the day.

According to the chief judge of the competition, Peter Reggio, the weather in the waters of Palma should gradually improve and please the titled fleet with its famous “sailing” conditions. 44Cup Palma competitions will run until November 17th switch

Recall that the top 20 crews are participating in the regatta following the results of a prestigious series of four Grand Prix stages (this series, as we reported yesterday, was won by Dmitry Samokhin, Russian yacht RUS76 Rocknrolla).

True, it will be more accurate to say – "participated". Because after four races yesterday, only ten will continue the fight. And among them – two teams under the Russian flag. Rocknrolla Samokhina finished the day in 4th place, RUS27 Annapurna of Anatoly Loginov – in 10th.

At the same time, the winner of the Friday races was also not a stranger to our team, but acting under the Italian flag – ITA77 Bunker Prince Eugene Braslavets. Thanks to this, the team received the right to perform in the final of the regatta, bypassing the quarter-finals and semifinals.

The second place following the results of Friday was taken by the German crew GER1207 Khalleesi, where the skipper is Nikola Friesen. This allowed the team to go straight to the semifinals.

The remaining eight “Dragons” today, on the decisive day of the regatta, will start the fight from the quarter-finals. And may the strongest win. But, of course, I want the Russian to be the strongest!
