AM Rusarc – the first in Cascais
The winner of the 3rd stage of the SB20 Winter Race Series in Cascais (Portugal), which was held at Club Naval de Cascais, was the crew of Anastasia Morozova AM Rusarc from St. Petersburg.

According to the press service of the SB20 Class Russian Association, “the weather on Sunday was not the most favorable – the morning turned out to be calm and quiet. By the 3rd race of the regatta (the first on this day), the wind power reached 7-8 knots, which later weakened to 4 knots, and then to calm. For this reason, the race was reduced, but this did not help the crews – many did not meet the control time.

The struggle was all the more interesting – no predictability. ”

AM Rusarc Anastasia Morozova (Diego Costa, Daniil Banayan, Aida Maximova) became the only Sunday race 7th and thanks to this won the regatta – 15 points, arrivals 1 – 7 – 7.

MST Vasily Grigoryev (Maxim Kuzmin, Mikhail Markin), who was in the lead after the first day, eventually became 6th – 21 points, arrivals 5 – 2 – 14.

      First week of five
The seventh day of the race ends with the time of the 63-year-old French skipper Francis Jouillon and his crew of 4: the goal of the IDEC Sport maxi-trimaran team is to set a new world record on the classic Tea Race route from Hong Kong to London.

First week of five

The result of the first week of the race: IDEC Sport is much better than the schedule according to which the current record holder – Giovanni Soldini on the Maserati Multi 70 moved two years ago – the lead is already 684 nautical miles. At the same time, over the past day, the team of Zhuillon overcame 577 miles. And just overboard already 3680 miles (traveled with an average speed of 22.3 knots). At some points, IDEC Sport flew forward at a speed of 38 knots!

Recall that the distance from Hong Kong to London is approximately 13,000 miles. Soldini record – 36 days, 2 hours, 37 minutes and 2 seconds. To improve this achievement, the French trimaran must cross the finish line, passing under the Queen Elizabeth II bridge on the Thames, no later than at 11 hours 36 minutes and 58 seconds on Saturday, February 23.

At first they lost the mast, then they turned over …
Here is a sad story with a happy ending. In November, a resident of the US state of Tennessee, Pete Brown, along with several friends went on a yacht on a trip from Japan to Hawaii. And they seemed to be in a hopeless situation.

At first they lost the mast, then they turned over ...

The way is far – almost 4 thousand nautical miles. In the first weeks of the trip, everything went fine, but once during a storm a yacht lost its mast. Okay, we’ve made temporary sailing weapons. Although they began to swim very slowly.

In mid-December – during another storm – a huge wave turned the boat upside down. “Those were terrible moments,” Pete recalls. – The water rose higher and higher, and with only incredible efforts we managed to return the yacht to its former position. But literally everything on it was damaged, and besides, we lost contact. They drifted, hoping that some passing ship would notice us. But they went day after day, and besides, we had almost no provisions left … ”

The first ship to appear on the horizon did not notice them. A week later (!), When another ship appeared, the poor fellows used fragments of a mirror, sending sunbeams to the ship. And it worked!

“When we were taken aboard the US Coast Guard, I couldn't hold back the tears,” Pete admits. – The rest also cried. We no longer believed that they would save us!

Fortunately, they saved. Now Pete Brown is in Hawaii, his wife and son flew to him. So this story, as we promised, has a very happy ending.

      SSL-2019: first day results
The Nassau Yacht Club in the Bahamas has launched the 7th Star Sailors League finals – the decisive Star of the Year boat race in which famous yachtsmen from 22 countries take part.

SSL-2019: first day results

Curious statistics. Among the participants are four Olympic champions and 9 silver and bronze medalists of the Olympics, 23 world champions in the Star class, and two more in other Olympic classes. Plus a winner of the Volvo Ocean Race and 8 winners of previous SSL finals.

As we already reported, Russian riders, unlike the previous two years, this time do not compete in Nassau.

Two races took place yesterday, and the conditions, in the general opinion, were close to ideal. At the end of the day, Eivind Melleby (Norway) and Josh Revkin (USA) took first place – they have 6 points (2nd and 4th arrivals). Note that in 2017 this crew won the world championship in the Star class.

Next come Diego Negri (Italy) and Fridtjof Kleen (Germany) – 7 points (parishes 1 – 6). Oscari Mukhonen (Finland) and Vitaliy Kushnir (Ukraine) – 13 (4 – 9) in the third position.

Who was the third – now the first
Everything mixed up in the Brest Atlantiques marathon — a length of 14,000 nautical miles — in which four Ultim class maxi trimarans take part. Now there is Sodebo Ultim 3 ahead (skippers of Tom Coville / Jean-Luc Nelia), although until recently this trimaran was only the third!

Who was the third - now the first

And all due to the fact that the leader – the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild team (Frank Camma / Charles Codrelier) and the Macif runner-up (Francois Gabard / Gwenole Gaine) needed to stop for repairs when approaching the coast of Brazil. The first to do this was the Rothschild (it’s yellow on the scan), which put in order a saloon in the port of Salvador (Bahia). After that – already in Rio – I made a stop and “Masif” (highlighted in blue), which damaged the feather of the steering wheel of the main building.

Repair, of course, takes time. Sodebo Ultim 3 (green) took advantage of the pit stops of the favorites, who didn’t go anywhere and, having completed the necessary maneuver – bypassing the Kagarras islands near Rio – had already headed for southern Africa. Now, at 12:00 Moscow time, Sodebo is ahead of Macif by 135 miles, and Maxi Edmond de Rothschild by 247.

The fourth trimaran – the main outsider of this Actual Leader race (Yves le Bleve / Alex Pella), marked in red – is 358 miles behind.
