The seventh day of the race ends with the time of the 63-year-old French skipper Francis Jouillon and his crew of 4: the goal of the IDEC Sport maxi-trimaran team is to set a new world record on the classic Tea Race route from Hong Kong to London.
The result of the first week of the race: IDEC Sport is much better than the schedule according to which the current record holder – Giovanni Soldini on the Maserati Multi 70 moved two years ago – the lead is already 684 nautical miles. At the same time, over the past day, the team of Zhuillon overcame 577 miles. And just overboard already 3680 miles (traveled with an average speed of 22.3 knots). At some points, IDEC Sport flew forward at a speed of 38 knots!
Recall that the distance from Hong Kong to London is approximately 13,000 miles. Soldini record – 36 days, 2 hours, 37 minutes and 2 seconds. To improve this achievement, the French trimaran must cross the finish line, passing under the Queen Elizabeth II bridge on the Thames, no later than at 11 hours 36 minutes and 58 seconds on Saturday, February 23.
